On another boxing news website, I was reading that Cotto is very confident that Margarito will be #33 in terms of wins. Plus, Cotto also gave a hint on how he will fight Margarito in that the mindset is not to go for the knockout but win every round. I know he has said before in previous fights that he goes in looking to win every round but did he just give away his game plan?
That is supposed to be predicted already, Cotto is not going there looking for a KO and only that, he has the tools to win a decision and if a KO comes then it comes. Margarito is the one who needs a KO.
I always wondered why the hell do boxers tell the world what they're gonna do? "I'm gonna jab, jab, and keep to his left." "I'm gonna keep coming forward and pressure." "Body shots, body shots, and more body shots." Why the hell do they do this?:huh:huh
If Cotto is standing at the end of the fight, he will get the decision, he knows that. If he trades with Margarito he could get knocked out and then the judges won't be able to save him.
BTW, Compubox has determined in their mathmatical sort of way that Cotto will go into body destroyer mode early, instead of the cute boxing stuff. That was my theory as well.
No, he didn't. He wouldn't be that dumb to give away his game plan to the public, nor would any boxer.
Of coarse hes going to try and win every round but IMO no one but a fool says "I'm going to KO Margarito". Cotto knows what makes himself and his opponents tick.
Maybe but whatever he might reveal won't change Margarito's approach anyway. Margarito doesn't really adjust to his opponents, he does his thing with his usual 'what-you-gonna-do-about-it' attitude. In any case, it's no real secret that Cotto will try to move inside Margarito's jab, score with one or two bodyshots, clinch or move out, repeat. If he's confident that he can win every round that way, I don't see why he would take undue risk for the sake of knocking him out.
