Good post, although I think that Wlad would thoroughly beat Povetkin. Povetkin is a good fighter IMO, but not great. Byrd is still a very tricky fighter, with good technical skills. More unorthadox then Donald for sure. Will be interesting to see how Pov adapts to this. I think Alex will win on workrate personally, which is what Ike did in a lot of ways. He didn't have great success initially, but he just kept throwing and throwing until eventually he landed significant punches. If Byrd still has a good amount of fight in him though this will be very interesting.
I find that i go through stages on this site, where I use different forums heaps and then not much at all for a while. A bit over the lounge for the time being, but I am sure it will change in a couple of weeks.
The lounge is fun but a complete waste of time, most people just post mindless **** and dribble. Im trying not to go in there at all, just so i can keep up to my work a bit easier. Plus i just like the aussie forum the most, know all the reg s and its a good fun forum.
Yeah mate Aus forum is the best IMO, its like the perfect mix between the lounge and the general. Would be awesome though if we had a few more posters and were allowed to discuss international boxing and non boxing related issues more freely. I can see why they don't let us, but it would make this particular forum better for us.
I've often made posts saying what I think about Wladimir, but to generalise a bit without getting to much into WHY i think these things, he is being overrated. He's formidable but frankly one dimensional, people used to say that of Lewis after Steward got his hands on him but is/has none of the following good head movement, the ability to fight inside (Lewis was a good defensive infighter, also ahd nice right uppercut), he's also mentally weaker than Lewis (for various reasons, past habits of turning away from punches, taking several rounds to open up this is diminishing as his confidence grows, but look at how long it's taken). He moves well and has good speed for a big man, has good power and does what he does with his left and right well (mainly jabbing, straight right, even the left hook is dissapearing). Brock showed he's not impregnable however, he's simply appears that way due to extraordinarily mediocre competition. I'm sure that if Povetkin keeps a tight defence, moves and throws good combinations he'll trouble Wladimir (who never has been nor ever will be comfortable under pressure, some people just flinch or become flustered when someone throws a punch at them, Wlad is just that sort of person, it's his character/nature, with people like that you need combinations, they'll avoid the first shot, but the third shot tends to get through). However Povetkin won't beat Wladimir as he is, he needs improvement, better defence and a little more speed power, with that i'll give him every chance to beat Wladimir.
Wlad is certainly one dimensional, but its a very good one dimension that will be hard to beat. This will certainly be an interesting fight when it does eventuate. I will be watching this weekends match up closely, and will give some further analysis after seeing how he does against Byrd. Byrd, regardless of age is still world class (for the current division) and will be a great measuring stick.
I don't know, Byrd's world class but right at this moment for me guys like Byrd, Golota, Oquendo, Holyfield, Donald, Ruiz and Valuev are world class and pretty much on the same level despite different styles/problems when facing them.
I think i might just start watching all the fights at Eagle St. It doesn't cost me anything, and the location is brilliant looking out over the brisbane river. Can grab a feed and hopefully some cheap **** also. Just a short cab ride to home.
