Klompton, I see you've retained your legendary charm ... I meant new to me ... the proper reply would be thanks for posting it ... I guess your too busy on your Greb book ...
was able to get my hands on the Siki Miles fight a few months ago. Pretty neat. Of couse other gem is the fight with McTige.
Four months later he's getting a beating at the hands of the fearsome Kid Norfolk, who would be in a war with Greb five months after that... in Boston.
Don't know how Siki vs Carpentier can be classified as a "War" when Siki wasn't even trying the first 3 rounds. , Siki was supposed to throw the fight in the 3rd round, but he got ticked off when Carpentier yelled something at him. Also, Carpentier was punching Siki at full power, which was something he wasn't suppose to do in a match that was suppose to be a fix. When Siki decided to actually try, he destroyed Carpentier. Such a shame Siki didn't get more oppertunities to fight white fighters with the cuffs off. It's hard for me to rate those white fighters pre 1930 high, when they drew the color line. Just imagine if all the white champions post 1950 refused to defend the title against black fighters? Marciano would have never fought Walcott, Charles Moore....Patterson, Liston , Ali, foreman, Holmes would have all been screwed. The title would have passed from Marciano to Johansson to Quarry to then probably Gerrie Coetzee.
I didnt think Siki vs Carpentier was a war, Sure there was the early knockdown by Carpentier, but once Siki got going(Assuming the duck job story and all) Carpentier got a beating as bad as the one he got by Dempsey.
I don't know why it couldn't be classified as a war since it was two fighters slugging with every they had. There was nothing pretty about the fight, but it was a brawl.
Tough, strong and obviously hit hard, but Siki was wild as Hell. Wee Greg thinks he'd beat Saad; I don't see it myself, though it no doubt would be a war.
More like 2½ rounds. Siki clearly got frustrated after the third round knockdown, and came back to drop Carpentier. From then on Carpentier used every trick in the book to try hold Siki off, including headbutts and low blows, but was unable to do so.
I did not have the chance to see your new footage of Siki as it has been removed from youtube.... to bad for me. Would I have another chance to see that? Is it the Mctigue fight? Can get a hand on it... Regards
There's still something up bro and thanks for bumping this thread or I probably never would've found out who Siki was. I don't know if this was what the OP meant but it's something. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2mXqc1uLKk[/ame]
