I don't know if it's new but I just saw this, purchased it and really enjoying it .. Crossing The Color Line: Stanley Ketchel's Challenge for Jack Johnson's Heavyweight Crown by Vernon Gravely ..
I was sure I seen a Lloyd Marshall book somewhere a couple of years ago... I thought it was called Gloved Dynamite or something like that. But I began searching for it a few months back, with absolutely no luck. I must have seen another book or something that maybe mentioned Marshall(???). Anyone heard about it, or know if there is one on Lloyd?
I'm not aware of one ,Springs Toledo''s,"Murderers Row"is an excellent ,book dealing with the feared collection of Black fighters whom it refers to.Marshall has a nice feature in it.
No, it wasn’t a Marshall book. I forgot who, but someone cleared it up. Probably the most extensive writing on Marshall was in Springs Toledo’s excellent “Murderers Row.”
I’ll plug my own book. Just won the West Coast Boxing Hall of Fame “Book of the year” and has received great reviews and feedback thus far. Spring's book was terrific .. I remember seeing a book , can't remember if it was on Marshall or Bivins, pretty short , ..still, looked interesting .. I'll double check ..
Thanks guys. yeah I knew about Spring's Toledo's book, but I'm sure I saw some Preview or Add or Prototype Cover or whatever it was on Marshall but couldn't find it again, there after... Maybe someone was setting out to write it and never completed it. I don't know but I'd sure like to read a well researched book on Marshall. one of my biggest regrets, I was in Sacramento in 1982, for a few nights, and many years later I found out Marshall lived there. Man had I known.
