new boxing board rule on cuts?

Does the fight going down as Khan NC5 Barrera, help the fans who payed and watched the fight get another moment of action in that fight?

Barrera was there to a job, he did it, and no doubt was well paid, and can always mention how the Khan fight went down.

Khan got a W, that boosted him to bigger things, no one is suggesting it was Khan's fault that Barrera got cut, so why should Khan be punished with an ugly asterisk in his career resume?

 

A problem for me is that we end up with fights where the cut fighter decides he "can't see" because the fight isn't going for him.

Cotto made a fan out of me against Clottey when he insisted on continuing when cut, ahead on points and with a technical decision in the bag (or a NC before that) if he'd have used the cut as a way out of the fight. He carried on with the cut and won the fight, I'm not sure every boxer would be that honest....

Great news. A long time coming but common sense has prevailed.

 

Go on a Palmer style crusade about the rule, Gaz! Go on!

 

They just need to ask the doctor if the fighter is right to continue, rather than just taking the word of the fighter most of the time.

Alexander quit and as such should have lost by stoppage..... it was a case of gambling with the scorecards, a bit like Judah vs Clottey.

 

Again Alexander/Bradley was another rubbish decision, that thankfully purely by chance went to the right man.

If you cannot continue and were cut by anything other than an illegal act, then bad luck son, this is hardest sport in the world.

But you can come back, it is just a shame to the paying public, but they too, should know the risk themselves.

 

I would like to see more points deducted for headbutts. I don't think Bradley deliberately headers his opponents but he fights in a manner where he doesn't care about them. There have been "accidental headbutts" in Bradleys last 7 fights which is pretty atrocious. Lowblows result in points off regardless of the intent. Of course it's going to tricky to assign blame but I see no way of stopping Bradleys "nutting" unless he starts getting penalized.

 

Gaz has a good point, it does give fighters an opportunity to back out when they think they're ahead or even if they fancy trying their luck.

But, lesser of two evils IMO. I think we have to put faith in the pride of most fighters that will always want to carry on, rather than carrying on penalizing fighters for being headbutted. Losing a title that way is sickening.

 

I just wish that Doctors had the bottle to say a fighter can continue even they don't fancy it. Then its a TKO.

 

That would be the ideal situation but I don't think too many doctors are going to put themselves on the line for a boxing match.

 

Yep, I agree. Thats the problem, its a licence to quit if a fighter either doesn't fancy it or thinks he's ahead on the cards.
