carbs that are not refined sugar, like in a potato or white rice, usually take about a 1/2 hour to get to your blood stream sometimes more and give you a blood sugar/insulin boost that lasts 1-2 hours. you do not need to eat them after your workout, they last the whole way through and lifting weights causes a big temporary increase in your insulin sensitivity as far as getting the energy and nutrients into your muscle cells.

you could eat something sugary after to spike your insulin even more but i personally think it is more fattening than helpful to do this. a lot of what you hear about post workout carbs is muscle mag bull**** written to sell sugary pwo drinks. working out is NOT an excuse to eat junk food. it is up to you though, the workout carbs arent even really the point i was trying to make, whatever you do you need to eat more whole food.

another thing that i guess i should have said is that the post workout meal is what you should eat right after lifting, and you should be getting home as fast as you can and putting away a big meal (dinner). if you dont eat dinner for a few hours after you finish lifting then your post workout meal should be a big tupperware with a full meal in it.

thats why people use wholemeal rice pasta, bread etc so there isnt much of a blood sugar icnrease due to it being slow releasing

Junk food? its SCIENTIFICLY PROVEN that low fat chocolate milk is good for you after a workout to replinish your energy and provide with protien

by any chance do you practice what you preach?

i have not had a glass of milk in years. not lactose intolerant, it is just not something an athlete should be drinking. i can find studies that say all kinds of crap, what were the controls? if they were not valid controls then the study does not mean a single ****ing thing. dairy is a huge industry and just like every other big food industry they have labs that do bogus studies pumping out bull**** to sell more stuff non stop.

i am not digging around on pubmed to prove you wrong so dont ask, you asked for help and i gave it to you. take it or leave it. lactose is extremely fattening, unless you have a gene found exclusively in nordic populations your body does not like it and it is causing a lot of stress on your digestive system and interfering with your bodies ability to get nutrients out of everything else you eat, and unless it is organic chocolate milk, it is full of crap you do not want to drink and very bad for you.

to tell the truth you are probably better off eating a mars bar if you want to eat refined sugar, which will get the job done but is obviously not as healthy as white rice or a baked potato.

you are right it takes less time than slow carbs like oats and whole wheat, thats why i said WHITE carbs, which are faster digesting and cause MORE of an insulin response, which is the whole point of eating before or after lifting. to cause an insulin spike and get nutrients into your muscle cells during and after the workout.

Just wondering what you think if a 40:40:20 ratio of protien: carbs: fat is good or bad ?

That's a **** load of protein for anyone. For a normal male with a calorie intake of 2500 that's 250g of protein which is a huge amount. Better to have more carbs and less protein, and I personally like a slightly higher fat intake more like 25%, everybody needs good healthy unsaturated fats, they are essential.

I think you need to take your tinfoil hat off. I practically live off dairy products and I'm lean and mean with a digestive system that functions perfectly, I can't even remember the last time I was sick. There are independant studies that show that eating dairy products can aide in weight loss.

the healthy fats in organic, grass fed dairy are great and can aid weight loss in certain people who are not lactose intolerant. the shitty fats in grain fed dairy do not, and almost everyone who is not from northern europe is lactose intolerant to a certain degree even though they might not realize it.

also, your personal experience with dairy really does not mean ****. and the "independant studies" you are talking about dont mean **** either if you dont look at the controls, which i am willing to bet you did not. controls are the only way to tell if a study is legitimate or not, saying it is independent or unsponsored does not mean ****, if an organization is willing to publish a bull**** study, you are a moron if you do not think they are willing to bull**** about how they are getting paid as well.

big tobacco got away with it for decades, use your head.

Nuff' said. I've had more than a litre of milk a day for the past 10 years, I've never been close to overweight. Also, I've never had any health or nutrition issues.

I do very well in kickboxing classes. I'm not dying because I drink milk...

Does "SCIENTIFICLY PROVEN" mean found in a random Internet article? (I read the same thing somewhere).
Scientifically proven on the other hand means show source or GTFO.

    My 2 cents:

Breakfast: 3 eggs with fruit and milk (OR oatmeal with fruit)

    Snack: almonds or trail mix

Lunch: Turkey sandwich and fruit (OR chicken salad with fruit) more milk

Pre-workout: more fruit, BCAAs/Multivitamin (OR 2 glasses orange juice)

Post-workout: Whey protein 10 minutes after workout

Dinner: Fish, rice and vegetables (OR steak, potatoes and vegetables) WITH a salad

**Throw a 'reward' snack in there every so often after a good workout. Don't deprive yourself, reward yourself and you will stick with it.

People who major in sports science/ nutrition have this in their study books, yes you can find it online but then again you can also find that the earth is round online. DOESNT MAKE IT ANY LESS TRUE DOES IT. The main outline is after a workout your body needs simple carbs to replinish glycogen in your muscles and protien that it can use straight away. All "recover drinks" that companies sell are 20-25g:50g of protein: carbs with no fat because fat takes longer to digest. Fat free chocolate milk has the same ratio
Now if you aint got helpfull things to say you gtfo and stay out.

Another question but any comments on a 1500 calorie diet? while doing the same excercise to drop weight in time for next season? Would you believe it to be unhealthy or ok etc?
