I hope Canelo doesn't get away with his rules changing demands, otherwise this will really hurt the sport that is already incredibly corrupt. I understand why these "catch weights" occurred in the past. Mainly the B side fighter wanted a pay day and was willing to have a clear disadvantage just for a payday and of course to try and beat his opponent. Pacquiao started all this nonsense. Pac vs De la hoya, Pac vs. Cotto, Pac vs Marquez, etc... I'm sure he didn't intend for this to happen in the future, but this is what is happening now and is truly hurting the sport. In the past, catch weights were nonexistent. The smaller fighter had to move up in weight. Canelo is a MW. No doubt about it. Why is he DEMANDING GGG to fight him at a catch weight? 1. Canelo wants an unfair advantage over this dangerous fighter. 2. He is using this as an excuse because he doesn't want to fight GGG. I hope the WBC does not change the rules and side with Canelo and give in to his demands. Middle weight is 154.1 to 160 lbs. GGG is a MANDATORY so Canelo must fight him or vacate the belt. This is not for negotiation for catch weights. If Canelo gets away with this, others will start to follow and will hurt the sport.
catch weights have always been around Leonard did it before Pac did, ...it used to be very rare though now it's becoming the norm unfortunately.
