TROY Waters will be inducted into the Australian Boxing Hall Of Fame on the 10th Oct at the MCG. Waters challenged 3 times (unsuccessfully) for the World jnr middleweight title. Commonwealth flyweight champ HENRY NISSAN will also be inducted, as will Aust middleweight & light heavyweight champ CLIVE STEWART. Legendary LES DARCY, who won a World middleweight title, will be officially elevated to Legend status. Great to see these guys receive the recognition they deserve!
Clive Stewart is very much alive, and remains totally in control of his faculties. Hope to see him in Melb for the dinner.
...yeah 'im too mate - was really only pumping up the Aussies in a short summary. Must say I've got mixed feelings about the Honorary Internationals section of the ABHF, and in saying that I'm NOT trying to detract in any way from Terry or Johnson, Dawson, Langford, Moore, Fitzsimmons, Morgan or Lewis before him.
Troys is/was my favourite Aussie fighter last 20yrs. Here's a little reminder of his guts and determination. Norris was P4P top 3 at the time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOtd2aZOow0
Yeah, Troy was by far the most impressive of the brothers IMO, and great to watch. Tough luck for him that his body size had him in more difficult divisions against better opponents. I remember the late Bill Mordy commenting on one of Guy's title challenges and just shaking his head. Bill reckoned that Guy just cruised through and if he'd have got into gear could have won it.
CHB... was joking about Terry Downes mate. I'll tell you a story when we catch up next time. It has a little bit of relevence to this thread... mostly in the realms of a good laugh though. I'll PM the story to ya.
