He ALMOST looks as good as Willie Pep here folks.:D

This is probably the best compilation to date. Not that much of a fan of the song, but it's superb work nonetheless. Congrats to the creator of the compilation. :good

ill admit he has a better jab now but Pea is not as good as Pep. Pep dosent need a good highlights package because his defensive skills are a highlight package

thanks for the props.i watched all my pernell fights, people go on about how brilliant he was on defense but he could do it on offense too, imagine if he had 1 shot ko power.

What exactly did Pep do better? Pea had the better jab and was the better in-fighter. He also fought better off the backfoot, and as such was more adept at dealing with pressure fighters. So where are Pep's significant edges?

Pep's better because he has over 200 fights, was in a plane crash, then made a comeback, fought in the 40's and 50's, and simply came decades before Whitaker.

I don't think comparing Pep and Whitaker is easy. I do think it's valid. I guess if i had to suggest areas where Pep was the superior of Whitaker I would suggest leading with power-shots upstairs and out and out footwork. There may be a sense, too, that Pep was more fundamentally correct, though I don't insist. He was also a bit better at scooping shots and parrying them, I think.

I'll agree on footwork, at least fundamentally. One of Whitaker's few technical flaws was in his tendancy to cross his feet when on the move, leading to balance issues (primarily post-Lightweight) when he was fighting out of a more flat-footed stance. He more than made up for it with his ability to fight off the backfoot and control the ring, though.

 My man! What a ****ing glorious genius. Head and shoulders above every other fighter of the past 20 years. My favourite Pea performance is probably McGirt I. Sweet Pea is in there with a bigger man, an excellent welterweight champion, and when pressure mounts on him, he produces the goods. It's a tough and difficult fight, but I think it really says something about Pernell. Too many people make rash comments about featherfists and a lack of offence, but in that fight Pea's physical strength and his infighting abilities are just fantastic.
