New PPV Format for Froch vs Kessler

From what I understand, if it is done in that manner, it will be on SKY Sports.

SKY's idea is give non subscribers the option of buying SKY Sports for one day. If you only want to watch boxing for instance, you can just purchase SKY Sports on a Saturday of a big fight. It will cost £12, which means, if you are looking to purchase the package for more than four times, you are better off buying the package.

 

It will be good if they did this. Fight not PPV view worthy IMO for Sky subscribers.

 

It'd make a Cleverly or DeGale fight PPV if he wanted one massive pay day late this year / spring next year if he doesn't get a Ward rematch.

 

Read about this the other day but it's an online only thing. It's not really PPV just that you can have a one day subscription to all the Sky Sports for £9.99.

They'll probably do it for both. On tv for old subscribers (to encourage them back) and online for potential new subscribers.

So it seems like you can't get it through your Sky box.

 

It's through Sky's Now TV service, which just launched on the You View platform late last year. So you can use it online, through a You View TV, or any other Freeview or Freesat box with internet connectivity.

be interesting to see if this model works, it's obviously loads better if you're already a subscriber but difficult to predict how much revenue it will raise. £9.99 seems expensive to me. Considering nearly all events that will be attractive to one-off viewers are shown on SS1 there isn't much incentive to get a day pass is there?..you might aswell just get SS1 for a single month @ £15 or whatever it is nowadays. The fact that you'll also be able to watch korean ice skating on SS4 during the 24 hour period is hardly going to sell it.

Also brings up interesting questions on how the revenue will be split. Froch - Kessler 2 / Champions league final on the same night...which will attract the most day viewers and who gets the money?

 

The Champions League rights are already paid for, I'd expect the Froch fight to be taking Lion's share to be honest.

 

It is a good idea but would be much better if you could get it through your Sky box as well.

They will probably market it along with the CL final - being able to get Sky's coverage over ITV's and a big fight live immediately afterwards.
