One of the few times we agree on something. :good Good thread. I just wish you didn't judge fighters on the "quitting factor" so much, if you know what I mean.
Thanks, Carles! :thumbsup I just respect toughness and heart, is all. Sometimes your body can't take anymore, but I like guys that battle through adversity. Roy Jones did that tonight, and big respect to him for it.
Fair enough. PS: I hope you won't put that bloody Cotto avy up there again or I WILL smack you! :hey :good
roy should have put it all on the line after he knocked calzaghe down he was clearly hurt but roy couldnt pull the trigger and thats that
True, he did. Good point. :thumbsup Carles -- Cotto avatar is on the shelf for now, so no smacking of me! :deal
That's pretty much it. Roy hung in there despite searching to no avail for those gifts that made him so brilliant in his prime... he showed real heart tonight despite knowing defeat was basically inevitable. Well-done Roy, you're a legend of the ring, and we'll all remember you for what you were, not what you are.
Here's what Roy said after the fight on the subject: http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/columns/story?columnist=rafael_dan&id=3691133 Well done, Roy. I'm glad he's giving himself respect for his effort. Nothing to hang his head about at all. He did himself and the sport proud.
I'd love to see Jones Jr take a few exhibitions against old fighters... maybe like the Virgil Hill, Henry Maske, Sven Ottke, Darius M type boxers if he can get them interested and just go out being Roy against the oldies.
I have absolutely no doubts that the Roy of old would have pulled the trigger and taken Calazaghe out.No disrespect for Joe .He is up there with the best of them but Roy in his prime was unbeatable.
