Outside of Holyfield and Lewis there is nothing special about that top 10 at a to make one think it was a great era.

Bowe and Witherspoon were done by then. Tua is one of if not the most overated heavyweights of modern memory.

Moorer was a great light heavyweight but at heavyweight he wasn't great.

And please tell me what Mercer, Akinwande and Golota had done to warrant such great acclaim?

Face the facts that outside of the top two maybe 3 in each era the rest of the calibre of fighters are a hit and miss mixture. If you don't think Povetkin and Chagaev and Byrd would all be top 5 in the rankings you've shown then your barmy.

Shredded the prime and 'greatest ever' am star to shreds. Lucky for Savon he was protected by the 4 round rule. Even with headgear he was still left scarred for life by the young upstart.

He boxes circles around the likes of Tua, Ruiz, Izon, Oquendo, Grant etc.

Tua sucks, plain and simple....... Anyone half decent boxed circles around him, and sometimes, sometimes he caught them late in fights and forced a stoppage after being thoroughly outboxed for the majority of it.... Green and notoriously chinny Maskaev was outboxing him, Izon, Oquendo all had their way with him before getting caught.. Rahman in a just world would have been 2-0 against Tua. Nothing against the guy... He had a mean left hook, granite chin, and was a joy to watch but he wasn't a great heavyweight.

Yes more fights are being made and i like that, its a start in the right direction. But the fact is promoters couldnt make money with these fighters, they didnt just turn their backs for no reason. There have been plenty of successful fighters that transitioned to US audiences, and its because they were exciting.

    Exactly!

When people mention Tua all I ask them to do is go and watch the Jeff Wooden fight.

Ibragimov will always be remembered for the stinker he had with Wlad, but he was a quality fighter and it's a shame he retired when he did.

Yes, if those heavyweights were any talented, they should be able to defeat such an untalented champion like Klitschko.

Back in the day we had the almighty champs like Jack Johnson, Jack Dempsey, Joe Louis, Marciano, Liston, Frazier or Evander Holyfield for example. They would all be able to dominate Wlad's era for 10 years.

    :good

LOL. Those who haven't fallen for the mystique and aren't wearing rose colored goggles know otherwise. Half of those guys wouldn't even be top 10, nevermind dominant for 10 years......

Era's are judged individually. Its impossible to determine how fighters from one would do against another. Talent is much easier to judge. You can make a baseless claim that fighters from another era wouldnt be able to compete today, but its unprovable. It is easy prove talent by the skills a boxer displays or in todays case the skills they dont display. Thats not rose tinted glasses, thats the reality of things.

He might have some talent, but still those guys should be able to beat him if they were as good as the old-time contenders, right?

No way those mentioned old champs couldn't dominate the untalented heavyweights of Wlad's era for at least a decade. :thumbsup
