-- This is better. I do rank Tony Thompson in the Top10 after his wins over Guinn, Timor and Krasniqi. He has done more than Rahman, Ruiz, Skelton, etc. Thompson is the new #10 HW. Those are good rankings, btw. http://www.thering-online.com/ringpages/ratings2.html
Thompson is a pretty decent hw. In the same mold as TOS and to a lesser degree, Brock, w/less power. His chin is still a question. He looked pretty hapless against Timor Ibrag which soured me on him. Orthodox boxer w/pretty slow hands and good defense. I do think he could give all the belt holders fits sans Wlad, assuming he has a decent chin. Wlad would ruin him due to his orthodox style. I think the bottom half of the Ring's rankings are flawed. Mine would be 5. Sultan 6. Brock 7. Valuev 8. Byrd 9. Thompson 10. Povetkin Just outside Virchis, Sergei, Brewster
Maybe the read some comments on ESB and revised the rankings as Thompson is the much more deserving than Arreola.
I'm sure the comments by real journalists in MaxBoxing, USA Today, ESPN, etc. carried much more weight there...
I had him marked as a Tye Fields type, happy being a big fish in a small pond...but I admit he has stepped it up over his last 3 fights. To be brutally honest, in terms of recent achievement, he probably does deserve to scrape into a top 10 at the moment. I can easily think of more than 10 better fighters, but several of them have just suffered a loss or two.
Brewster looks finished. If he wants to keep fighting, he should take one year of gradual increase in comp. before stepping up again.
As has been said, Thompson was more top ten worthy than Arreola, even before he beat Krasniqi. Arreola should not have been in there, at all. But don't look for Thompson to stay in the top ten very long.
This is my Top30 after Thompson beat Krasniqi: 1. Wladimir Klitschko (since April 2006) 2. Sam Peter 3. Ruslan Chagaev 4. Oleg Maskaev 5. Sultan Ibragimov 6. Nikolay Valuev 7. Calvin Brock 8. Sergei Liakhovich 9. Tony Thompson 10. Chris Byrd 11. Vladimir Virchis 12. John Ruiz 13. Hasim Rahman 14. Alexander Povetkin 15. Matt Skelton 16. Evander Holyfield 17. Oliver McCall 18. Eddie Chambers 19. Alexander Dimitrenko 20. Chris Arreola 21. Lamon Brewster 22. Danny Williams 23. Jameel McCline 24. David Tua 25. Oleg Platov 26. JD Chapman 27. Juan Carlos Gomez 28. Tye Fields 29. Jean Francois Bergeron 30. Chazz Witherspoon
After his heartless, "thanks for showing up" performance against Wlad, Brewster has to be written off from each and every world HW ranking. Not even top 15 in my opinion.
