he's this big guy who does the inverviws on zdf after and before the fights. he was once a good judo fighter and did really good work commentating sumo, k1 and other martial arts on eurosport. at least at eurosport he was a straight shooter and didn't mind telling his opinion when he felt something was not right. i can imagine, though, that the zdf totalitarians would not tolerate such behaviour if he got to commentate fights there - still he would at least be competent and not constantly talk just to fill gaps when there's just nothing to say.

actually von der gröben was european judo champion. he keeps his critical views back (i don't know if he really has any), zdf probably wouldn't tolerate overly critital views. rene hiepen was quite a good commentator, more critical, but he left or was removed.

    v. d. Groeben is as biased as Ploog.
Examples: "He [Erdei] is the best LHW in the world, there's no doubt about that".
"She [Graf] won a close, but unambitious decision."

ZDF didn't broadcast a single second of his fight, only the Halmich and the Graf fights.

gotta be the zdf-influence or the extra money they're offering for making such statements :hey

on the other hand the light heavyweight division is a joke and for hyping reasons it's alright to call erdei the best, even though i don't even agree.

Yep, I like Erdei and apart from Dawson and perhaps RJJ he can beat anyone IMO. But beating C-level fighters doesn't prove that he's the best, there's no doubt about that. :D
