Unless you beat at least 1 Top 10 HW, you shouldn't get a title shot. I'm getting tired of seeing boxers fight a smorgasbord of C-listers to get a title shot.

Couldn't agree more. First it was Rahman, then Briggs. These guys beat up a bunch of tomato cans, and then get title shots they don't deserve. Heck, in Rahman's case, they just GAVE him the belt - without even having to FIGHT for it!! :patsch

Sultan, Oleg, and Sergei all got title shots without having to beat a top ten guy to get a shot. (Unless Guinn was top ten when Sergei beat him.) It happens a lot, and much more often than it should. Connections and promoter unfortunately counts more than accomplishments when it comes to getting a shot. It's definitely an issue.

How are they supposed to do that, when there are four seperate organizations that all avoid each other........????

For instance, if, say, the WBA is contemplating who should be their next mandatory, and someone says, Hey, Rahman seems to be the highest ranked contender..........And someone else says, No, we can't make him the mandatory, cause he's the mandatory for the IBF.............What about Briggs, he's the next highest ranked contender in our organization?
.............to which he gets a reply, No, Briggs is fighting in an eliminator for the WBC next month.........and so on.

When you have four seperate organizations, the quality of contenders is obviously going to drop, cause there are only so many heavyweights to go around and keep all four titleholders fighting.

And another point; I don't think you can put too much emphasis on these undeserving fighters getting titleshots...... afterall, its not really THE title they are fighting for, its merely one fourth of THE title, so given that the prize is lessened, I don't think the requirements to fight for it are expected to be as high.

    Right?

And this is another reason why unification is SOOOO needed in the heavyweight division.

Well, yeah, I suppose - but it doesn't make good for the sport, or the right thing to do. If all you have to do to be a "contender" is to knock out a bunch of stiffs, it kind of cheapens what a "contender" is supposed to be. Then again, as you point out, the entire concept of "champion" has really been diluted, if not obliterated, by this title fragmentation, so it is not surprising.

The real solutions is to GET RID OF ALL THESE CORRUPT SANCTIONING GROUPS!!:yep

Why this rule should apply to hws ? Tired of seeing those bums getting unearned title shots. Read that Duddy might face Pavlik, who the hell did he beat to get a shot, 204 years old Campas ?

Yeah, this doesn't only happen in the HW division.
