I just watched the Pac/Hoya fight again while having lunch today. I just want to say my opinion has changed since all the other times I watched the fight. For the first time since the fight happened it seems to me that it wasn't so much a matter of Hoya being weight drained that night than just being shot. I mean physically and mentally shot. So I don't know if it is an issue of weight draining because Pac went into that ring and did a beautiful job at boxing DLH. I think Hoya has been shot since he retired after the Hopkins fight. If you watch Oscar in that fight and watch Oscar in the Mayorga fight you will see a noticable difference in speed and timing. The only thing about Pac is I think Pac exposed how shot Hoya was. Mayweather didn't do it because he was on the backfoot and thinking defensively as if he were facing the Hoya of 1999 but Pac had no such illusions, he went into the jaws of the lion and strafed it with right hooks and lefts straight down the middle. I know everyone is tired of talking about this but just wanted to say my opinion has been changed. At the post fight interview Hoya says, "I did this to myself," and makes other cryptic remarks about how things went at the gym as if he knew beforehand things were gonna get hellish.
People should go watch the first round again.... and tell me exactly whats wrong with Hoya, as in the first round he sure as hell isnt so much more 'SHOT' then the one mayweather fought like people are claiming. He looks like the same hoya that fought Mayweather imo.... and Pac boxes beautifully... masterful performance by Pac with an underrated defence.
His surname is DE LA HOYA, mother****ers, DE LA HOYA. You wanna be short, say DLH, but don't hurt my ears by saying 'Hoya'. Seriously, guys. It's this kinda thing which coined the latino term "gringo".
Exactly!!! Even shot or WD fighters can still put up a fight, though mostly they go down, but in this case DLH didnt because he just didnt have any answers for pac... so if I have to rate pacs win, it would be 40% - shot/WD DLH 60% - pac's performance
simple fact is this: Pacquiao vs. a PRIME DLH from his 140 or 147 days is a COMPLETELY different fight. And Manny is far from guaranteed the win. THAT was the real DREAM match -- the skinny, slight-framed TALL wrecker vs. the short, physically-amazing (yes, he is larger than almost all his opponents in most measured areas.. just not in height) whirlwind.
......and so.....?? that don't change the fact that his last name is NOT Hoya & if said for simplicity, DLH is much more convenient on the keyboard!
The simple fact is De La Hoya could not handle Pac's speed. Pac kept beating him to the punch to the point that DLH stopped throwing punches altogether. This can be proved by looking at what DLH's corner said before throwing in the towel: 'THERE'S NO POINT CONTINUING...HE'S TOO FAST!' They should have never been in the ring together, DLH could not handle the speed of an ex featherweight. And because Pac is a freak of nature he carried his speed up the divisions.
****, you got me. Esta bien? Que Cuentas? Please don't tell me to use my jab more, though, or tell me that I gotta learn to stop saying stupid things which give others something to cling to for years. It's over, I will never fight again. Hell, don't even tell me to work on that conditioning more so that I won't always throw away the last 2 or 3 rounds like I have in so many big fights I've been in that went the distance! Also, yes I underestimated Manny going into this fight & thought I'd whoop that ass... please don't shove it in my face.
