Hey there, im just starting out in boxing and would really like to get into the sport. Which means getting in to shape :good. I'm 14 btw.

So far ill be running 3 times a week, how far should i run? and at what intensity is best for boxing? And sometimes i may have to run in the morning, is this ok, will it burn muscle? Then im going to do situps and pressups morning and night. As well as shadowboxing and im going to purchase a skipping rope.

I will soon be joining a gym, so that will be good.

Have i missed anything? Any pointers?

    Thanks in advance, Joe:bbb

( I have gloves and a heavy bag at home )

For running it depends on how fit you are. Its great for weightloss if your are overweight and will build a base aerobic foundation. Very long runs are not required unless you are a pro 30-45 mins is maximum.

If you are fairly fit, you can incorporate sprints into your running. 200-300 meters on then a good 2 mins off to make sure you are recovered properly. This helps with anaerobic respiration which is what is used most in boxing.

As for your heavy bag your hands may become sore after a only a short period of time. Thats OK, just stop at that point and come back another day. Punch 3 mins on/1 min off like a pro but remember to learn how punch at your boxing club before you start on teh bag at home. You can really hurt yourself if you dont.

The only advice you need is from your trainer

Join a gym. If that is not possible yet, become more active in general (run, swim, walk, any sports really) and clean up your diet.

start running like three miles if you can. I dont know how good of shape you are in but try and go in and out of sprints during the run because that helps a lot. running in the morning is great just make sure your eating a good breakfast afterwards. get a trainer at the gym if you can because its pretty hard to do this all by yourself.
