Hey I am new to esb (basically, I have read the front page for years) and just recently started doing some mma. Did a bit of karate as a kid at a mcdojo, which is basically useless, but I did keep up with the strechting and would kick heavy bags at time. Had a few boxing matches, really working on grappling though. I live right outside youngstown ohio. Anyhow I will be in the mma form some, and in the classic form because I like old time boxing like jack dempsey.

sup bro welcome to ESB ae im not a mod or anything but yea thought id say sup!
Yea i mainly train in boxing not really into BJJ but yea i like old school boxers aswell really into gene tunney, rocky graziano, jake lamotta and joe louis. My only advice is to stretch aloooooooooooooooooooooot because it really does help with kicks as perfecting the perfect kick in my opinion is harder than perfecting the perfect jab, i normally do 20 kicks on the heavy bag, then do squats, then stretch, then 40 kicks on the heavy bag 20power/20speed. Im working on having an amateur boxing fight sometime end of this year or early next year hit me peace!

Well my main concern with mma is defending submissions and getting back to my feet. I will never be a great mma fighter but I definitly won't be a great bjj guy.

I had to look it up, wiki says Johnstown is a small village on the other side of the state. You know people in ohio?

um im not really a bjj guy myself however one thing i have learnt is to always keep calm especially if the person takes your back and when they do take your back keep your chin down. The other uncomfortable position is when your either being stacked or he has you in full mount i suggest to always grab 1 of his wrists or if goes for an armbar grab your own wrist to prevent the armbar from going full. I suggest start off by learning how to properly execute a rear naked choke, escape from mount, hip throw, guillotine choke, anaconda choke (no gator roll), and maybe even a triangle if your flexible enough. HOPE that helps man.

Its tough because my mma gym they just throw you in to grapple. Not really learning the basics of that. I know you gotta do to learn, but I'd like to have it broken down and repative exercises in steps. Almost like sparring your first day of boxing. Of course its not that bad because as long as you tap you don't really get hurt.

Still?? But yea Ai I think your advise is pretty good, thanks.

You will have ups, you will have downs but this is like a family and a place you can call home.

    I'm out.

New to MMA? First thing you need to know is Brock Lesnar is the GOAT and Fedor is extremely overrated and ducked the UFC.

ahhhh just realistic. I hit pretty hard, boxed for about 15 years (on and off of course) so i have to suspect that the stand up would be my strong point in the few years of physical semi prime i have left.

Catch Wrestling/Brazilian Ju-Juitsu is where your focus needs to be if you have the better part of 2 decades boxing. I do BJJ and Muay Thai and also a Marine Corps combatives instructor. I boxed a few little amateur sparring sessions as a teenager but found my passion in BJJ and Thai boxing. I love how its the "art of 8 limbs." So much more useful in close combat IMO.
