Yes, for a question like this, those two are obviously strong candidates... but a closer look at their records reveals, that Lewis "only" had 7 fights in his busiest month, while Wickwar had 8. So neither is the answer to this question.
ROUND 6: Several future champs lost their pro debut - but which world champion took the most attempts to get that first pro win? Manny Melchor
Melchor's first win came in his 5th fight - but another world champ didn't get his first win until his 7th fight!
ROUND 11: Which world title fighter gained the most weight between 2 consecutive bouts? (from one official weigh-in to the next) Iran Barkley gained 40 pounds
Teddy and Tommy Yarosz? Hmm... I don't think they shared even ONE HOFer! But you got Buck Smith right:good... at least I don't know of anyone with more than 12 in a single month.
I'm racking my brain trying to figure out who fought an opponent that weighed 2 1/2 times as much as his lightest.. So far the best I have is Bob Fitzsimmons, who fought a 147 pounder and a 300 pounder. Tough question!
Shared! My mistake. I skimmed the question and for some reason thought it was a total number of HoFers. If that was the case, I'm sure they would have it!
40 lbs is a hefty increase - but several men can beat that (and remember: a "world title fighter" doesn't necessarily have to be a world champ!)
Ok, you guys... it's past 2 in the morning here in my part of the world, so I'll turn in now, and won't be commenting on any more suggestions until tomorrow. But thanks for all the replies so far!
