I'm in NYC now so does Anyone know what gyms are in NYC and whether any top boxers train at them? I know of gleesons and church street (which is the street my hotel is on) any more? And who trains at them? Also a long shot but anyone know of any bars which might show the British fights on Saturday night? Thanks
Johns Gym in the Bronx is a great gym real old school, Joshua Clottey and Joseph Agbeko are training there, Go by this week and you'll probably catch Agbeko sparring. He was sparring there on wednesday at 4 o'clock. Theres tons of Golden gloves winners who train there such as Christopher Galeano and Stivens Bujaj (now a pro) and top trainers like Billy Giles (trained Malinaggi and Hector Camacho to world titles) As for your other question the fight doesnt seem to be getting screened on US TV INFO FROM THIS PAGE : http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/news/story?page=boxing/schedule/index You could try Nevada Smiths its a soccer bar but it might have a sky box of some sort and be able to get boxnation(might be a long shot)
If you want to see Pros go to Gleasons in Brooklyn plenty of the top NY guys train there, of at least spar there at one time or another.
As a side note, talking about Gleesons, Paulie Mallignagi was supposed to of been a hell of a gym fighter, any New Yorkers know anything about that?
I train at John's Gym. Unfortunately they're closing... there are other gyms in the bronx I'm looking into though... Gonna miss that place... Church st and the other downtown boxing gyms are ripoffs... JG was great. I'd be interested in hearing what others say about gleasons
It depends on how serious you are. A lot of the gyms are not what you would call hard core. There more to get people in shape and teach some basic boxing skills. Oh, and of course to make a buck.
Im in Ireland now. Alex is tall and from somewhere in the Caribbean his daughter is Storm, he has his set up at the very back of the gym beside the lockers. Yeah i know Cano he's a nice guy. what weight do u fight at? Im hoping to be back over there training next summer hopefully the gym will still be open then.
:thumbsup That's right. Jamiva trains out of Kid Kelly's Gym in Brooklyn. Mustafa is the head teacher/coach.
