Hi all, (first a bit of an introducion, feel free to skip! :yep:yep) I am quite new to being fit as a whole, I only started to get in shape with any real enthuseasm back in January this year. Anyway this has led me to boxing classes, first just as circuit training once per week and now I am taking boxing training on a weekly basis. My aim is just to get fit really, an improve on my technique but I'm not sure I will ever fight anyone. I've had a read around this forum and found a few great tips, but will probably start to annoy you all with a few pointless questions I have :yep (Now for the question) My first nag id regarding skipping! I'm getting pretty good at skipping, working it into all of my workouts if I can. I usually do a 5 minute warmup before weight training or if I am circuit training I do a 10 minute warmup. I have noticed a huge improvement in my technique here. Three weeks ago I could barely skip on my left leg without it feeling like it would buckle, now I can quite happily hop away on it to my hearts content! :yep:yep:yep The next day however, I am getting pains in the front of my shins, towards the inside of my leg just above the ankle. I'm pretty sure its the muscle around that area, due to the constant skipping, maybe just not used to it. Does this ease over time? Should I do any particular stretches to help with this? Also are there any other exercises I can do to get around this? Thanks for your help! :yep:good:yep
I had the same issue with my shins when I started skipping. They are most likely shin splints, which do heal over time. Take it easy on the skipping for a few days and go back to it to see how you feel. Remember dont ignore the pain keep training. Also, if there is a workout you cant or don't know how to do take it easy, concentrate on proper form, and focus on your goals. God bless.
Sounds like shin splints mate, what sort of shoes to you wear? You might need to get some with more padding, I had the same problem from running when I first started out. For me they just went away eventually, maybe not smart but I just went through the pain and in time it stopped hurting.
I had wondered if it was shin splints. I do a lot of running as well, so this may have something to do with it. I was hoping it would `bed in` :yep:yep:yep What causes shin splints? My legs are skinny as hell, always have been. Would strength effect it or is it just I am not used to it?
It's caused by pressure on your legs from things like running and skipping, particularly if your body isn't used to it. I just read up on it and apparantley its a horrible idea to try and run thorugh it and that you should take a 2 week break.
yea in boot camp some kid got shin splints in our division, and his shin bone wind up snapping and he was put on medical hold for like 5 or 6 months.
I hate to be the one to **** on the parade mate, but I was able to skip for over a decade quite easily, now every time I do I get sore ankles and the pain goes right up the inside of my calf.I've been seeing a genuine football professional physio and he told me to lay off the impact cardio, but skipping and running are the only things that get me in the zone if you know what I mean.Had my first skip for about 6 weeks on Friday...and my ankles have flared up again. I really hope it's just that beginner's pain that you've got, because skipping is a great way to do cardio in a quarter of the time anything else does. I just know I'm going to have to give it up.Gutted! Unfortunately, you can't really stretch the shin but I'd make sure you do calf stretches and roll your ankles around 5x each way. Good luck!
Thats mostly what is annoying me. I've only been doing it a few weeks but I love it, the thought of two weeks off annoys me!!!!!! Gonna rest this week and book in with a physio on Friday I think. The problem is since Jan all I have done is run about 4 times per week or go to the gym, even then I run to warm up. Recently with the skipping and cct training I feel I have taken my training to a whole other level. A break now is just going to annoy the crap out of me!!!! ARSE!!!! atschatschatschatschatschatsch ha ha thanks for all the hints chaps! I'll let you know how I get on
i had a lot of problems with shin splits cause i was playing basketball a lot on a concrete - skiping on boxing training was impossible, as well as running.. now i`m doing the same but somehow my legs got accustomed.. i can still feel the pain but very rare and its nothing like before. just take some little brake and it will be gone in few days.
