Just thought I would check in. I started training and learning how to box in 2006, but due to a non boxing injury and no convenient gyms, I stopped. In September 2010 I joined LA Boxing out of Cary, NC. I joined their boxing team and have been training for an hour Monday through Friday and additional ring specific training on Wednesday nights and sparring on Friday Nights.

I'm currently 6'2" 207 pounds and 34 years of age. I turn 35 next month and I guess that puts me in the Masters Division.

A couple things I would love some advice on as I begin this road:

    1. Is it worth getting my USA Boxing passbook to fight in the Masters Division? I've heard it is difficult getting Masters Fights

    2. If I get my passbook now at age 34, can I skip the physical that is required by the Master's Division?

    3. Any Master's Fighters on this board, any in NC??

    4. Just in the past 2 weeks I have started experiencing some significant wrist pain in both wrists, but specifically in my right wrist. It's actually the back of my right hand just before the where the wrists bends on the thumb side. (hope that makes sense). I'm not sure if it is from poor punching form, or simply an unlucky punch that didn't land properly.

Anyhow, I'll stay tuned to this forum. I checked out www.mastersboxingdivision.com but the message board gets very little activity.

    Thanks for any feedback.

By the way, this past Friday night in Cary, NC my coach was able to pull two other boxing teams over to our gym for a sparring event. I really wouldn't call it sparring though, we were outright fighting. It was well put together with enough boxers in each weight class to get a good work out in. I sparred a 27 year old guy who was about 220 and already had his first amateur. I held my own and stood in there. I definitely need to work on throwing combinations after slipping some shots though!
