I wasn't that impressed with Cheeseman, glad Fitz won. It was definitely a perception thing leading people to overrate Cheese's performance. When you've watched a guy deliberately block punches with his forehead for a whole fight, then any kind of lateral movement seems massively impressive. He landed the odd punch, but nothing I would describe as a clinic. I would encourage him to carry on like that though. That kind of perception happens with all sport, and it happens the other way around too. I remember people criticising Steven Gerrard at Liverpool, but it was because he set the bar so high that he needed to ping at least 2 goals in from 30 yards for some to be happy. But then if Lucas completed a few passes he got rave reviews.
https://www.fightdisciples.com/2019/10/21/episode-337-toon-tear-up/ Podcast, starts off with the Friday night fight at LHW (Beterbiev/Gvozdyk) then onto Ritson/Davies and at the 20 minute mark, they discuss for around 7 minutes the commentary surrounding the Cheeseman/Fitzgerald fight. Matchroom take a bit of a deserved biffing. They seem to suggest that Fitz isn't fully with Matchroom. Well worth a listen.
It’s ridiculous the amount of fighters and actually big names who aren’t actually with matchroom. They’re just on a fight by fight basis. It’s disgusting to be honest. Basically they drop any one they feel like after a loss or whatever.
