A short interview with Tomasz Adamek for polish magazine Metro Journalist: 10th of July you are going to fight with ... Tomasz Adamek:... with somebody from top 15 of IBF. J: There's Chris Byrd, former HW champion TA: Nothing has been delt yet, but nothing says it will be Byrd. American TV stations wouldn't be insterested into this fight. Really, I can't say anything else. All I know my fight will be the main event and is going to be in New Jersey, 10th of July on Showtime. J: In IBF top 15 Chris Byrd is only the one famous name. TA: Well, I have to defeat somebody deangerous, but less-known. Maybe then I will get someone famous. J: You had a chance to fight Bernard Hopkins, he's a famous boxer. Don't you regret you declined his offer and come out to the ring for 500.000$? TA: I don't know where this 500.000$ came from, but I can make you sure that if I was guaranteed, that I will get this cash, I would come out to the ring. I suppose that HBO wanted this fight, but Hopkins didn't want it himself. Conditions that were proposed by his team weren't acceptable. Was I supposed to go into the ring with such dangerous man and get for this fight just 'a pack of pears' ? I have to respect myself. J: For a while there even was a chance to fight Roy Jones Jr., also a big legend. TA: There's still a chance. Unfortunately, we already know, that it's not gonna happen in July. HBO has planned some fight in summer and they wouldn't be able to pay me and Roy cash which could satisfy us. HBO confirmed that we will talk about this fight. It figures I will fight RJJ in fall. In this example I really know that he wants Adamek. J: So maybe idea about fighting Evander Holyfield or Andrew Golota in HW wasn't silly ? TA: I have never taken it seriously. Evander let us understand that doesn't want to fight me. Golota ? I don't even want to comment that. It's fight that could be great only in Poland, but around the world it could be like a curiosity. It's not what I was leaving Poland for. J: What about fight in Germany. IBF has 4 Germans in top15. TA: If I have an offer in the USA, every other proposal is worse. I know that Marco Huck is high in the ranking. But what this fight would give to me ? Steve Cunningham defeated him, I defeated Steve. Hierarchy is clear, right ? J: Right, but you moved from Poland to fight top guys, and they walk away next to you again. TA: Yes, that's annoying, but what else I can do ? I can only wait patiently. Sudden decisions, nerves, they wouldn't give me anything good.
I hope it will be the last 'dangerous and less-known' boxer in Adamek's career. We want to watch him fight top guys of course, right ? For such break I can watch him KOing brutaly somebody from this fu~ top 15 and then start to watch his "American Dream" coming true, by fighting big guys. Bring it on, please.
Good interview. Adamek is in the drivers seat. And alot can be learned from what he said that I highlighted. He's a smart, cool customer, this Adamek.
Not many quality opponents available...or interested in fighting Adamek in America. Sad, champion wants to fight.
He has already title eliminator with Wayne breaithwaite probably on july 11th , as an undercard of Agbeko-darchinyan , at'least thats wot i heard
As long as Adamek keeps beating good fighters and looking good doing so he'll get a big fight. I can still see the Hopkins fight coming around.
Good interview, I like this guy he knows what he needs and what the fans want, I hope he gets a good payday soon
