    Recently crowned WBA featherweight champion Brandon Figueroa will make the first defence of his title in Riyadh on September 12 on the undercard of compatriot Saul Alvarez in a card dubbed ''Mexico vs the World''

    WBO/WBA junior flyweight titlist Rene Santiago will defend his titles against Masataka Taniguchi on April 3 at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo. Treasure Boxing Promotions has a news conference today to announce the bout.

    Isn't Figueroa born in America, and he fights under the American flag? It is a bit off to say he isn't American because of his Mexican heritage.

    Thanks for the news. If the rumors about Inoue - Nakatani in May are confirmed I wouldn't rule out the possibility of the Monster fighting Figueroa in September for win the featherweight world title as well. Obviously, this is just my supposition, first comes the match against Nakatani, which is certainly interesting (but in which I see Inoue as the clear favorite).

    Easy way round to circumnavigate any nationalistic controversy is for Espinoza - Figueroa, to top the bill.
    It’s a can’t miss great unification contest.
    Sore loser, Alvarez, still bleating over his recent loss, could snag a spot on the undercard.
    There’s no shortage of great Mexican boxers, to make this a memorable occasion
