Calzaghe is making twice as much at the moment, fighting legends of the sport. Froch would have to offer him three times as much to have a real chance, given Calzaghe's intentions to retire.

I think he'll make something closer to $16m than to $8m against Jones. Even assuming that isn't accurate, he has been wanting to fight Jones forever, especially at the Garden; he's never wanted to fight Froch; why would he?

Calzaghe could make more than $8m against half a dozen fighters out there, all better, more proven and more highly regarded generally than Froch. So why would he fight Froch again?

Calzaghe could enter the ring drunk and in a straight jacket and still clown Froch to a UD.

Froch needs to be careful, just because people are tlaking about him as a future world champ doesnt automatically make you a world champ.

The fella he is fighting for the ?WBC title is the best fighter he has ever fought and by a long way imo. Definately no guarentee.

I doubt Fat Mick has that much money to offer Calzaghe. I bet Calzaghe is getting more for the Jones fight anyway.

He'll get a damn sight more than he'll get for fighting Froch anyway. What's the PPV price over in the States anyone? I would imagine $49.99 or something close to that?

Remember also, they are both self-promoting. No pesky promotors involved trying to steal money. And they split 50/50 down the middle.

Will HBO be interested in Froch ahead of Hopkins, Dawson, Pavlik or even Taylor...cant see it.

Calzaghe will retire anyway imo he is getting old.

Mick Hennessy has lost money on bills before, either paying too much to his fighter or the opponent - he holds Froch in small arenas when he could pack out somewhere decent.

He paid Witter a fortune for the Harris fight yet only a thousand turned up.

Didnt come across as stupid as he usually does...

Calzaghe deserves to be motivated by money, he's 37 and had as many rtitle fights as Carl has had fights, hes coming to the end and retirement plans are looming.

5mill is an impressive figure though, but with only ITV backing i cant see how Mick has come to that figure...
