Donaire is penciled down for a Sept. 13 fight so says Arum.. Jorge Arce has been mentioned as an opponent.. Linares, haven't heard much of him.. I'd like to see him fight Guerrero or even Chris John..

Linares-Guerrero would be a good fight.

I don't fancy Chris John stepping out of Indonesia, ever. When the big names like Barrera, Pacquiao and Marquez were still at featherweight his camp never tried landing a fight with one of them. The names floating around at featherweight nowadays don't even approximate the star power and the corresponding money it brings that Pac and company had, that it's doubly hard to see John risking a fight away from his judges at all.

I don't know if they didn't try or rather if they tried but didn't get the kind of deal they were looking for

They'd have been out of their minds if they seriously believed they could lure the truly big names at featherweight into fighting in Indonesia. Marquez's decision was an aberration, a management blunder that was roundly criticized thus. In a normal world a Rocky Juarez agreeing to fight there would have been a minor miracle--them getting Marquez was a bigger one.

It would also not be realistic to expect an American promoter to shell out $400K to get John to fight on US soil, and that's what I would estimate his camp would ask for if they "tried". Aside from Indonesia and I suppose a little bit in Australia, Chris John doesn't have a fanbase in the Americas and even in the rest of Asia to merit such a pay.

And that was what I think stared John and his camp in the face. Fight outside their hometurf for the right amount, or continue fighting patsies in Indonesia until another desperate big name decides to bite the bullet.

I wish Linares signs with a better promoter or something he is on the underrated side to me.
