Vadim Kornilov who advises fighters for Banner Promotions and German Titov Box Promotions revealed to [] that his fighter Dmitry Pirog may take a fight in his native Russia before resuming his career in the U.S. Pirog last fought in July when he knocked out the then undefeated American prospect Danny Jacobs with a hightlight reel punch.

Kornilov told [] that they were unsuccessful in their attempt to match Pirog with WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez.

[]'s Rick Reeno recently reported that HBO is dead set on Martinez facing WBC junior middleweight champion Serhiy Dzinzurik on March 12th. Pirog may need a higher profile fight before a match up with Martinez is possible.

The guy he'll fight before Martinez, IF he ever fights him, will be Fernando Guerrero. You heard it here.

I predicted this for Pirog long ago. The guy isnt busy enough. He think after beating jacobs he is in line for HUGE fights and an obscure dangerous fighter like Pirog with no name other than to use hardcore fans is not going to get that kind of recognition.

He would be well advised to follow Rahmans example. Fight frequently, fight lesser opposition and pad up your record so that you cannot be denied.

These guys using this strategy of staying out of the ring for huge, long stretches and not being busy almost always end up in obscurity.

Realistically, someone with above average punching power. Or tremendous footwork/handspeed.

I'd love to see him give a shot to Lemieux who's #10 @ WBO, but I don't think Pirog would do that in the near future, nor do I think David would be ready just after Rubio.

    How about David Lopez?

Korobov? Russian superfight! Don't think Korobov would have the nads to step up that this moment in time though. There's probably **** all money in this fight.

He'd beat the dog **** out of Guerrero if they fought, bad stylistic matchup for Fernando, too big a risk for the young prospect. Pirog's inactivity is annoying me. I just want to see the guy fight again!

I seriously doubt if Lopez would travel to Russia. He'd probably take the fight for a big pay day in the USA, but Pirog isn't a big enough name to offer big money.

Doesn't mean they won't fight in around 2 years time, maybe even more. Martinez can be king for another 2-3 years still, HBO could try to build this up to the max getting each of those guys (Maravilla/Guerrero/Pirog) insane amounts of exposure for the next 24 months. They'd have their **** together. We'll see if they do. :yep

Martinez doesn't want to fight Pirog. Too much risk for little reward. Can't say I blame him. He's worked damn hard to get where he is.

Pirog is 30. In Five years, he ist to old for big Figths. He doesen´t have the time for long inactivity. He must fight, must win. I think Pirog is the only MW whit a chance against Martinez, at the moment.
