I hadnt read the report, but have now. I dont find it that unduly harsh on MTG - He clearly hadnt prepared, and was well out of shape for the contest. Someone on another thread said somehting along the lines of "Boxing isnt a game" , its not something you do half heartedly. To answer the other points. 1. MTG not headline material. BBN's editor felt it was appropriate to run with a story of MTG's result on the night of the fight (no other results just his) because of the mass interest in his debut. 2. Cheap laughs and cheap headlines. Journos have been making careers out of cheap laughs for as long as they've been writing. Perhaps some of the emphasis could have been further moved onto Jenno, however, if Limmond beat Khan, do you think the Times would run with Limmond wins, or Khan loses? Terry hasnt discriminated against MTG, have you seen his Gomez fight report?
I just feel there's no need for the way it was written. I think we'll have to leave it at that North. I hope you haven't found our disagreement personally insulting obviously we must just have different views regarding fight coverage and reporting.
Personally insulting, no, not at all mate. I didnt write it, so couldnt give a monkeys. I understand where everyones coming from, but if he was as bad as the report makes out, then why hold back. Theres enough problems in british boxing at the moment, the last thing we need is a ring death due to unprepared fighters turning up half heartedly.
i dont want to hurt mtg feelings but he shouldnt be boxing,he thinks he is a good prospect and no one else does, you gave it a shot mt so dont try it again you will get hurt,i personally know mt from years ago and he should be stopped from boxing,he will get hurt and boxing doesnt need that, why didnt he have a trainer with him because they new what was going to happen, but his trainer is to blame he should stand up and tell him he isnt fighting
Max my man, what username does this 'writer' you talk about post under on Boxrec if you dont mind me asking?
terry's tried to register here to comment on this thread, but it hasnt worked (yet) for whatever reason. His response is below.
The difference between Audley and MTG Is that MTG didn't make out he was a superstar without backing It up.
I think it was an off the cuff example, I dont think he's comparing the two... the same could be applied to any fighter.
I was at the fight and to be honest it was wronge to call mtg Fat, but i new the min he went into that ring with michael that he was going to get floored. I would never disrespect any boxer ( all my brothers box ) but myg did not look in good shape. michael trained hard for this fight, he's a great lad and he deserved to win. I do wish martin well and hope he continus boxing, but he will have to get in the gym more often. mike jenno was training with tony dodson and joey ains and he was putting them on the deck, he is getting married in september so i dident think he would be fighting again till after the wedding, but there is a fight next month lined up for him, so GOOD LUCK JENNO.
yes it is true, and more than once, tony and mike have sparred together from when they were kids at the solly. mike jenno has always kept up his training but never boxed for about 8yrs now, that was his first fight against martin in 8yrs .
