This should be sticky, just a reminder to those who feel the need to start making excuses in advance

i won't listen to any replies until you explain to me why Hopkins wasn't drained by those 2 pounds

Nope, just meant its easier for a fresh youngster to shed a couple of pounds especially if he has fought below light middle before than a 40 year old veteran who's always been at middle weight

    good try , next

I'll just repeat my reply from the other thread. This is a good example. But Hopkins wasn't really considered big for middleweight.

Historically, this looks like an outlier. Most of the catchweights I can recall have benefited the smaller fighter.

It would be cool to make a list of notable catchweight fights and their results, though.

yep people dont get it! Canelo is 23, gonna have no problem at 152, people making lame excuses when a 39 yr old did it when hes been a middle weight for 15 years!!!!!!

But no one cares. This forum is just a popularity contest. Canelo could get away with fighting Juan Diaz or Ricky Burns i swear

Hopkins when he was at 160 he always walked around his weight he never had to lose much weight to make 160 and he didnt gain much weight after the weigh in, He was similar to Mayweather at 147 in that regard, while Canelo walks around 175/180 and has to lose 20 or more pounds just to make the 154 limit and then gains something like 17 pounds after the weigh in, him and Hopkins couldnt be more different in that regard and i think the comparison between Hopkins and Canelo is not a good one cause both take different approaches to weight and weight making.

Different fighters ,different ways of doing things, Hopkins was much more disciplined than Canelo who if he continues to do what he does to his body wont have the longevity someone like Hopkins or Mayweather guys who do things the right way have.

this is true but the fact of the matter is, is Hopkins was fighting at middle weight for ever!! Then was asked to come down 2 pounds, was he weight drained?? wouldnt it hurt a older fighter more then a younger fighter??
