NeX Panamá Canal 21: Ricardo Núñez vs. Jeremy Triana & Jaime Arboleda vs. Elysson Márquez RBR

Round 1

Núñez is sticking out the jab on the belly and dancing in semicircles around Triana, changing direction after completing each half-circuit. Triana is leaning to either side in the Philly shell, taking jabs on his upheld bicep or slipping them with head lowered and spine tilted. Lots of defense by Triana, some of it pretty slick, but not throwing anything. Núñez is jabbing everywhere, body and head, wherever he can get a piece, connecting on a few here and there. Finally a surge from Triana, flurrying Núñez into the ropes, everything blocked. Another jab and soaring right hand from Triana, missing.

Well if we apply @MVC!'s scoring criteria with defense more heavily weighted than anything else, that was a clear Triana round.

If getting some leather on your opponent does matter, though..

 

Round 2

Núñez hurts Triana with a chopping right behind a jab as Triana is sweeping a low hook leaving his face unprotected. Triana is wilting, unable to get his legs to cooperate and carry him to safety. While he's a sitting duck Núñez doesn't hesitate, unleashing more power at point-blank, flurry, short-range uppercuts on the button, Triana goes down. He's up, shaky. Núñez moves in rapidly, big chopping rights on Triana's frontal lobe,and he's down again.

KO2!!

 

Triana had about three rounds of surprisingly adroit defensive slickness in him (for an MMA guy, much like McGregor against Mayweather), and then his entire house of cards fell in upon itself.

That...or Núñez is really a skilled (and legitimately powerful) KO artist.

(or a blend of both narratives, I suppose)

 

Chip off the family block...much like the older Ricardo he ought to rub shoulders with the elites, but find himself a tad chinny to really dominate. Could one-up his predecessor by grabbing a world title belt (although I suppose time isn't up for the Mathematician, since he canceled his retirement...but I'll have to see what form he's in to say he can still make any noise) and yet I wouldn't hold my breath for a lengthy reign. Probably a quick hot-potato, then a return to domestic fare the rest of his career.
