ODLH is a good looking guy and got the girls to watch boxing. Also, he was a huge attraction in gay communities. The men appreciated him for his boxing and he was every mother-in-law's wet dream of a son-in-law. Who is the next 'Golden Boy'?

If you had a lot of money and a TV company - who would you back in an attempt to help create the next Golden Boy?

 Seriously? If you LIKE someone then just say it!

You would have to find out if any of them have any talent other than boxing.

pavliks youth is usually overlooked, he is by far the youngest of that list..

he is from a great boxing town that loves him...
he already has hbo contracts and exposure..
he has alot of big fights in the future.. .
he already has a cool logo w/ affliction which would help in marketing shirts... he is undefeated...
has a chance to be a future three weight champ...
he has great exciting KO power...
    he has heart..
    he has it all...

Is there someone else that you think have more cross-over ability and is not included then just say so feller. Just post the name and if others agree they will post the same name.

Boxing is declining as a spectator sport and there Boxing is in need of the next cross-over star. Let's put our heads toghether and see who the alternatives are.

Meh. this cross over **** is overrated. this is boxing and all we should care about is if they fight well or not.

    IN MY OPINION...

ricky hatton is not attractive enough
mikkel kessler doesnt have enough of a following
floyd is on the way out and fighting style isnt correct
i think that manny being asian he cant connect with enough people
vlad is on the way out
    kelly pavlik is too boring

    which leaves
david haye... who i voted for

    he has a good look
a good style to bring fans from out side the boxing circle into it
and he has an exciting attitude to back up my last two points
talks a lot but can also back it up...

haye could be big if he can take out some of these heavyweights

Haye based on the above post and also on the basis that heavyweights should be the biggest stars.

    Should.

    Sigh.

I say Manny now has the ability but in the future, Kelly Pavlik if he keeps doing what he is doing right now. He is the American posterboy for boxing and so much more if he can play his cards right.

I feel that there are too many PPV's with crummy cards and not much access to fans that don't have the money and this definitely hurts the general number of fans. If boxing returns to the major networks to allow fighters fan base to accrue AND the promotors allow their fighters to fight the best that will surely help the numbers.

Being that Pacquiao is so highly regarded in his own country, he is virtually a shoo-in for what you call a cross over star. He can do whatever he likes basically IN THAT COUNTRY. You mention fighters from other countries and I would add Calzaghe but fighters are fighters and even the great Ali and Dempsey, engaging personalities that they were and fantastic ambassadors of the sport were still considered boxers at the end of the day. The better they are at their sport, the less needs to be hyped to gain fans. Word of mouth spreads fast. Tyson is a great example and Foreman too. Two guys that people lined the block to see knock someone out. Not the easiest on the eyes or most eloquent but they sure got their job done. No matter, a bunch of guys fantasizing and "putting their heads together to figure out the next crossover star" from the sport on a boxing forum is not going to matter a hill of beans in the real world. Ya know Feller?

Yep, I agree the next Tyson could be a possibility too. to cross-over to mainstream men and women and different agegroups you would probabkly have to appeal like ODLH did or appeal like Tyson did. Tyson was the '10.000 BC' kind of appeal. They tried to make that happen with Valuev, because in theory he is the closest we come to a Tyson'esque scare-factor - but he is simply too slow and not really scare except to look at. But who knows, there may be another Tyson some day. Imo. it is probably a safer bet to bet on someone to appeal to mainstream in the sense ODLH did though.

haha...gotta love the "Drink Like A Champion Today" shirt.

I think the timing in this country is just right for Pavlik to be a star. The economy is bad, everyone is struggling, and Pavlik comes from a city that reflects that. Most people can relate to who he is and where he comes from.
