If Pavlik was a HW, he'd be an absolute superstar in every corner of the world.

 

Probably Pacquiao (the US won't hesitate to embrace an Asian fighter if he's exciting. Pac definitely fits), Pavlik (blue collar "everyman" knockout artist..always an easy sell), and David Haye (prestige division, great punching power, exciting style, and the right look).

Wlad's got a chance to be the next one too, but he's got to try and change the perception that he's simply content being the best of a bad lot by injecting a little more excitement in his game. It's so easy for him fighting safe that there's not much mainstream credit in the US for him when he wins. He needs to have a "wow!" knockout vs Thompson to get back on the ball.


As for the rest, I fear Kessler won't get the necessary exposure stateside and he's starting at a distinct disadvantage there compared to others on the list. Mayweather, at least at his word, isn't fighting so I can't say Floyd. He would've been the closest had he not retired, though. Hatton doesn't have enough fights left and there's really not many winnable superfights for him left outside of Pac in the future since most of the action is at 147.

Pac appeals to everybody. Kids, Oldies, Women, House wives, Badass people etc. you name it!!! His action in the ring speaks allot.

Even Fitness people digs him. He's a perfect Physical specimen. He can make his own training Video & I'm sure it will sell.

Bruce willis, Garnett, even PBF digs him. What's not to like about him???

 

if crossover means crossing over to the US mainstream,
hatton should be but he is already on the decline.
mayweather is a favorite villain and he has retired, if he comes back, he would have the best name-recall among all boxers in the US but he wont be the next american idol.
pacman has it all, the skills and abilities, the resume and winning appeal, looks humble and classy in the camera, he has other tricks in the bag, he sings and does magic ala-david blayne, he has a good nickname (pacman) for name recall, a good asian following (and i would claim, a sizeable mexican fan base) and has been invited to pitch at baseball games, and would soon be a celtics mascott. but on the other hand, he is asian and mumbles english, he fights at the lower weight class americans think their 6-foot tall wives can beat this midget of a boxer, so why put him on their idols' list?
haye looks good, he is exciting, he talks trash like ali, but he is unproven at heavyweight and needs to display winning performance at that weight class before he invades US.
Kessler is exciting and has decent skills. but americans have never heard of him and may hear his name only and probably if they tune in to some boxing commentary and someone spurts him out as the guy calzaghe defeated.
Pavlik, well, he KO's opponents, classy and humble, with a humble beginning such as perfect for a cinderella-man role, he could make over-the top and dramatic poses for bilboards and t-shirts and lastly, he is american. i think he fits right into the cross-over type fighter if he could continue his winning ways over elite level opponents. pavlik is the man.
