The #1 contender is some Thai named Chonlatarn O. Piriyapinyo (who?) :? Much more likely is a rematch with Hozumi Hasegawa (#2) in Mexico or Japan, or a big TV date with Mikey Garcia (#3) in one of the bigger US venues. I'd love either of those. :good
no, he had the chance to fight gamboa today but declined. They didnt want to put him with el ciclon - especially on his birthday.
Based on the Yordan fight (and the pair with Juarez), I do think John's legs have largely gone. However, that isn't quite the death knell for him that it was for Cory Spinks or Ivan Calderon as his style isn't as reliant on movement as theirs was. The Yordan and Juarez fights also showed that John can hold his own in the trench. That said, Gonzalez has crazy power. So yeah, he might slay the dragon. More likely, I'd see Jhonny taking a decision.
Nobody else wants Gonzalez-Hasegawa II? :blood It could be in April. That's the month HH gets knocked out in every year. ...provided that Hasegawa wins & looks good in a tuneup in the next few months to justify his still-high ranking, and maybe Gonzalez can get another mandatory out of the way in the meantime...
Always wanted to see a Gonzalez-Marquez fight, I figured it would be bombs away until someone was ko'ed. Marquez is getting old and moving back to 122 so I don't know if that fight ever happens. Featherweight is losing Gamboa and Lopez but there are still some good fighters I'd like to see Gonzalez face next-Garcia, Salido, Hasewaga 2, Burgos, Barros-Cabellero winner. Any of those fights are fine with me.
