Ah yeah, nice one, I actually thought of his name while making this but forgot to include him.

Holders of the Euro championship often use it as their launchpad to a world title opportunity. (Eastman, Hakkar, Sylvester, Macklin, Gevor, Barker, Proksa...all went on to challenge after holding the EBU...that is seven of the last ten holders, only Asikainen and Hope failing to contend in the last decade...and of course historically you have the likes of Minter, Woodhall, Tiozzo, Graham, Benvenuti, Sibson, Carpentier, Turpin, Cerdan and Kalambay)

Barker vs. Bursak would also mesh well, in styles.

Firstly, nice initial post IB. Secondly, I would love to see Barker - Macklin. They are less friendly than Barker & Murray from what I gather, Macklin's last shot at a world title in all likelihood, and I think the styles would gel well.

As for Murray, I honestly would love to see him and Golovkin. I think Martin has what it takes to push GGG all the way. A potential Barker/Macklin Vs Golovkin/Murray match would be grand.

Personally I'd like the Murray fight but i read an interview where it pretty much said he's got to fight strum
In an ideal world he'd hav the strum fight beat him and then on the undercard they'd hav Murray and macklin (the build up would be classic) and then he takes the winner

Obv things like this rarely happen in boxing, hopefully GGG has knocked some of the arrogance out of macklin and he realises he's not above his domestic rivals

Barker vs. Murray makes way too much sense not to happen...

This. Let the guy put some money in the bank fighting eurobums for a while before he surrenders his belt to GGG.

I think he absolutely has to fight Sturm or be stripped. After that Murray seems an ideal choice. I'm not to high on Martin and think the Dazzler will handle him. After that if Lee beats Spada on the Fury-Haye undercard, he could end up facing Rubio for the interim WBC title. Chance for a good UK unification clash, sunglasses or not.

You are talking about 2 years before he manages to rematch ***y Sergio. By that time Martinez should be retired.

The only option I don't like is Sturm. If Sturm were to win somehow, that belt would be hostage and this time Sturm would be more careful with his opponent to avoid losing the belt.

A Geale/Barker rematch is inevitable but I do believe that the mandatory challenger trumps the rematch clause.

Sturm first. Then Murry then the rematch with Geale. In that order, and all in the UK where it makes the most sense.

So is everyone in agreement that Sturm now is the preferable mandatory defense (just get it over with) rather than Soliman later?

Soliman does have more of a legit claim, but it's kind of like the Game of Thrones situation with Stannis and Renly Baratheon. :think Technically the throne is Stannis' by right but nobody wants him for their king.
