Most people would say either Pacquiao or Mayweather are the number 1 pound for pound at the moment but they are getting on now, so after their time has passed, who will replace them as number 1?

Donaire has the biggest chance considering the number of elite level opponents available within his weight class (Rigo, Mares, etc.).

My issue with Ward, is after Dawson, should he beat him, what super fights are out there for him? Would anyone be that blown away if he beats the likes of Bute, Hopkins, Cloud, Pascal etc.

Nonito Donaire on the other hand has Toshiaki Nishikoa, the Abner Mares-Anselmo Moreno winner, Guillermo Rigondeaux, then a move upto featherweight where the likes of Salido, John, Gonzalez-De Leon winner, Garica, JuanMa Lopez, Caballero and possibly Gamboa as potential dance partners, so my money is on him (I favour him to beat all the fighters I mentioned by the way).

I got Ward, although he needs at least two more big scalps to silence any doubters about his position on the list.

there's still a possibility for a Bute match up but it's not as good as a win because Froch popped his cherry. but still a solid fight. there's also the direll brothers.

he can move up of course and fight the best of light heavy as well.

oh yeah, he can also take on the winner of Chavez vs Martinez.

My guess is it ends up being Ward or Alvarez in some order. Both of those guys are still very young and have many quality years in front of them. Donaire, Rigo, etc are great, but 1) they're with Top Rank and may thus have some trouble building up truly amazing resumes, and 2) they're a bit older and may only have a few great years left before decline sets in.

I think immediately tho it wont be a young gun. It will be someone unexpected like Bradley, Jmm, or Martinez. Pacman shouldnt even be top 5 he got beat by Marquez and Bradley, media's fault, but I pick Ward as a safe future #1 p4p.

I think a good way to silence his critics, if he convincingly beats Dawson, as people will say Dawson is drained etc, is to go down to middleweight and challenge Sergio Martinez for the middleweight title and convincingly beat him too, or alternatively rematch with Dawson at 175.
