...please stop to answer this question first:

Why did none of the American networks want to spend $US 30,000 or whatever it was to show Bute v. Allan "Sweetness" Green?:deal

    WHY?

Green never fought Hopkins and Trinidad. Beating Joppy means whomever is promoting Bute can say that he beat a fighter who has been in with top notch competition. At least, that's how I would spin it if I were Bute's management.

    I am mad! But not at you!:nono

I am mad because Americans do this all the time: "Look at Calzaghe's resume! It's ****! Whom has he ever beaten? Only a bunch of Euro-bums!" But when Calzaghe or Kessler or Bute try to make a fight with your boys, Hopkins says: "Calzaghe is not enough of a name"; Winky says: "Kessler is not enough of a challenge"; Green says: "No one in the USA is interested; there's no network that wants to show it!" Well, why is there no network? Why were the viewing figures for Calzaghe v. Kessler the lowest ever?

"Look at Bute...hugging that belt, making worthless defences against shot have-been NAMES!"

Well...it's not HIS fault exclusively, is it? IS IT?

It's **** that they even have to spin anything. It's sad that they picked Joppy just because he was American and had fought with some legends known in America. Why aren't US networks interested in making meaningful fights?

I told you Lacy was not interested in fighting Bute. I don't know how much they were willing to offer but money was never the problem from InterBox' point of view - they would have PAYED money to buy Bute some exposure in the USA.

Well, honestly, by American networks you mean HBO. It may have more to do with them not willing to show Green, who has proven nothing, then show Bute. They probably want to show Bute, and get him in there with a name others might recognize, or someone they can relate his name to (in this case, they will relate Joppy to Hops and Tito).

Remember, meaningful to them means $$$ not good fights.

They could have picked a (slightly) better opponent than Joppy, yeah! A non-American, good journeyman...but not a good contender, that's for sure - none was available or willing to take the fight!

Well, what would have been wrong with showing Bute v. Green and having the winner fight their boy Taylor? Would that not have made money?

I am sure they expect Bute to dominate Joppy. Then they may match him with Taylor. It's unfortunate, but it is what it is. I am not defending it, just giving what I think is their explanation.

If they put Bute in against Taylor after Joppy - fine! But doesn't it make more sense financially to build Bute/Green up against each other in preparation fora Taylor fight? Because it's obvious that Joppy is shot and long-time fininshed.

It would seem to have made not only money, but put HBO's poster man in a shot for one of 168's titles quickly.
