It is sold to an American audience, but indirectly..."You know, this guy beat Joppy, the former Champion, who fought legends like Hopkins and Trinidad! Wow, he must be good then; better pay attention! Maybe Taylor should fight him!"

I am afraid so...such is the sorry lot of the casual US boxing fan. The very fact that Bute will have had a US NAME on his resume when it comes to match-making will be very attractive to the US casual fan. And without the casual US fan, no big fights involving good US fighters can be made.

    that is risky thinking!

i think it will have more of this kind of an effect among the american audience:

he fought joppy?? that guy who got his ass handed to him by hop and trinidad??

why did he get a title shot??? isnt he totally shot??

oh yeah, another eurobum fighting american leftovers........etc.

so this could backfire REAL BAD!!!

That would suck for Bute, and is not outside the realm of realistic outcomes either.

The current reality makes much more business sense.

American left-overs will have him NOTICED and possibly, yeah, underrated by the casual fan. This is great! "Taylor would whoop his ass! Right on! Bring the Euro-bum on!" - this is exactly what InterBox are hoping for, I would guess.

Fighting a good contender who is not American would NOT get him noticed and would certainly not get him fights in the USA/against US fighters; on the contrary - "he fought some other Euro-bum; who caaaares!"

You mean: saving Green and padding his record?

    exactly.

cause look at what is happening here when people hear about bute vs joppy.

and what do you think the american boxing press will say about this??? you think bute will get praise??? i dont.

its more like a no win situation: if bute nukes him..........everyone will say so what, joppy was shot.
if he has struggles...................."hey look, bute got exposed".

i think bute would do better if he simply fought on some undercard in the usa vs a good fighter................and simply put up a great performance.

    steal the spotlight.

that will get you noticed in a positive way.

    fighting joppy wont.

Bute won't get to fight on no undercard in the US unless he is known; and he won't be known unless he fights some US NAME, shot or otherwise!

No, it won't buddy! Because that's not how it works! You get on an undercard if casual US fans know a bit about you; at the moment Bute is not known one jot; he is less known than Miranda, Hanshaw (the other guys InterBox targeted but couldn't get), etc. They don't have a belt! They have not beaten better guys than Bute! (Hanshaw is American, granted)

They weren't marketing it for $30,000. IIRC, they were asking for $125ish, which is way over ESPN's budget. No latino involved, so that eliminates Telefutura and Telemundo. Why Showtime wasn't interest for a Shobox or something, I don't know.

Well now, Mijares, Montiel, and Castillo were just on an undercard. No one knows them here lol.

IIRC? What is? Do you know this for sure? Have you a source?

So you're saying InterBox got greedy and passed on Bute v. Green on ESPN because they wanted to make some more money? This is absurd!

Call me naive, but I don't believe it! It doesn't make financial sense medium-long term.
