Next time you American posters complain about Joppy as an opponent for Bute...

Nah, I think we respect each others opinion. We agree at least on calling Bute a terrific fighter and how could Decebal hate someone like that? :rasta

I dig! The only reason they rated him was because they were stuck with him! Just like they rated Mundine's opponent(s) recently...it is scandalous! But Bute shouldn't be blames because Green said No, because Miranda didn't fancy it, becasuse Zuniga preferred an IBF eliminator at 160, because Hanshaw and Mendy didn't want it, because Sanavia was robbed, because Bika got injured, because Tsypko got injured...etc.

I don't like this match-up. I wouldn't pay to see it, even if I lived in Montreal.

But saying stuff like "Bute is one of the Champs who milks his belt most" or "Bute should be fighting Green or Zuniga, but is scared of a hard fight"...is ignorant and unacceptable! You dig?

I don't respect the opinion of someone who is stirring **** up when he clearly doesn't have a clue, particularly once you tell him what's what, because that would be respecting the opinion of a "hater"...:deal

I agree to disagree with knoweldgeable posters or with posters who argue in good faith, even when they lack the knowledge. But I am no longer going to argue or agree to disagree with ignorant posters who argue in bad faith, just for the hell of it.:good

    Money ! ! !

I'm talking of investment return buddy. :D

If they spend money to make these fighters "big names" now . . . do they have the clause to make sure these fighters will fight for their outfit again later? This is business . . . don't forget that. :yep

Beating name has-beens is a proven method for hyping up a fighter -- simply winning is not enough, the manner in which victory is achieved counts double. It's a major plus if it looks good on a highlight reel.

Boxing fans, casual ones especially, have limited attention spans and limited knowledge. There's so many fighters to choose from. Thus, the statement made in a fight has to be able to get the point across almost in bulletpoint form.

Recent examples of bulletpoints that do not impress despite being full of merit:

"Shane Mosley scrapes out decision over tough former belt-holder Collazo."

Mosley did not benefit from this solid win image-wise. Collazo has no big win on his record, and is thus worth little. (besides the ranking)

"Mikkel Kessler dominates in points win over iron-chinned contender Andrade."

Kessler did not get much exposure from this victory. Why should he? None but boxing-addicts know the first thing about Andrade.

Examples of bullet-points that do impress:

"American Super-Prospect Lacy bloodied, battered and ultimately destroyed by Joe Calzaghe in title unification match."

"Ricky Hatton knocks out Jose Luis Castillo in four."

    "Roy Jones beats Trinidad."

    ------------

Boxers known around the world are increasingly far and in-between in the days of Pay-Per-View. If you want to make a name for yourself, you better get a hold of one if you're not a prolific knockout-machine. Keep your 0 by fighting opposition that represents the least risk and hope your ranking and following will grow big enough so your promoter will feel you're worth using up his pull in getting a has-been name for you.

HBO craves money -- they are not interested in the best fights, but in the biggest fights. Pac v De la Hoya? They'd jump at the chance. Mijares, Gamboa, pre-Lacy Calzaghe? Not interested. They have 'better' (more lucrative) options.

Boxing has slowly tailored around this concept. That's why everyone is calling out the same fighters, because they represent the big break. For some it may come early, for some it might come too soon, and for some it won't ever come. (Hi Witter)

As a boxer, you live and die by the payday you represent.

    --

What I'm meaning to say is that Bute winning against tough contenders wouldn't do half as much as knocking out an old and shot Joppy in impressive fashion. Show the highlight reel, makes him look good, and the name Joppy will ring a bell. Sadly, it's necessary in todays boxing environment.

Yes! I agree and this is what I've been trying to impress upon ESB too! Since there wasn't a good fight out there for Bute (save Kessler), might as well take Joppy rather than some good journeyman no one has heard of!:good

You have more experience than me in telling stupid things.
One thing is for sure, you don't know anything about this topic, even if you have posted more than a thousand times.
