‘He’s got a steel chin.’ It’s one of the most over-used axioms in boxing, however in Hermann Ngoudjo’s case, it happens to be true. The Montreal boxer was admitted to hospital immediately after Friday night’s decision loss to Juan Urango for the vacant IBF junior welterweight title and was operated on for a broken jaw. Part of the procedure that has the two-time world title challenger’s jaw wired shut for the next five weeks was the insertion of a steel plate into the chin of the Ngoudjo’s chin.
“He must have an incredible tolerance for pain,” said promoter Yvon Michel said of Ngoudjo who broke his jaw in the third round where he hit the canvas twice but went on to complete all twelve rounds. “He informed his corner in the fifth and they asked if he wanted to go on. He never thought of quitting
“At first I wasn’t sure whether to believe him when he told me after the fight. But he told me about the pain he was feeling and the fact he could feel with his tongue that his teeth were no longer level. Also he couldn’t bite down properly on his mouthpiece.”
The surgery has been deemed a success and has the 29 year-old raring to get back into action. “He was in the office today with his wife and she was telling to shut-up. Doctors orders!” joked Michel. “He was down Saturday morning before the surgery, he told me he trained so hard and wanted it so bad. But by Sunday afternoon he was upbeat and wanted to get back. We’ll have to take a step back for two or three fights, but Hermann understands that and is willing”
And if he ever gets a rematch against the hard-hitting Juan Urango in the future, then it will be ‘Iron Twin’ versus ‘Iron Chin’.

It most be a weird feeling to have your jaw wired shot for weeks.

He's tough as Hell. Let's hope he can bounce back. He should fight Lamont Peterson next, solid contender but not a massive puncher. Although Urango won a lot of rounds and dropped him twice, no doubt Herman could warrant a rematch with another solid win.

He put up a hell of a fight but no "home cooking" this time.He will be back, but I think more of a gate keeper as opposed serious threat for world title honors.

lets be real here the only time there was home cooking in an Ngoudjo fight is when he fought in the States.

    Alot of corruption there.

He seemed that way but in reality He couldn't make any other expression because his chin was broken
