All's fair with impositions made on the party who fails to make weight in a title match. Ward's camp easily could've said "no fight" or demanded even more of Rodriguez's purse. You don't think he got off pretty easy? He was forced to limit his re-hydration to a measly 10 lbs. BOO HOO! :|

Tonight was a solid win for Andre, and the perfect kind of fight to both shake the rust off and test the shoulder out. Nothing wrong whatsoever with taking out a top 10 contender.

In fact, I hope we see more of it. I'd rather Andre target and take out a couple more Edwin Rodriguez's of the 168 landscape and stay active rather than see him take an extended layoff waiting for a big fight.

One of the underappreciated aspects of Ward decisively winning the Super Six, as IB's post makes starkly clear, is that we are now a full TWO YEARS on, and the 168 division still has yet to recover any of the star power and strength in depth that it had prior to the Super Six. The current Top Ten at 168 is filled with people Ward has already decisively beaten, plus Bute and Stieglitz, and a couple of European level fighters. Ward said in an interview a few days ago that he has no plans to move up from 168 for another 1-2 years; if that's true, he will have difficulty maintaining fan interest in his fights, given the current state of the division. Maybe GGG moves up, maybe Ward fights Froch in the UK, maybe he fights JCC Jr. I guess it says a lot for the legacy of the Super Six that it produced such a definitive champion.

 

Ward is undoubtedly the best smw out there, but would you pay to go and see him fight? Bernard hopkins is more entertaining than him and thats saying something. He's unspectacular, highly effective, and completely boring. Thats inside the ring, interviews, commentary, everything. Definitely one for the boxing purist, but not for the boxing fan..

 

I highly doubt it .. GGG best win is Curtis Stevens, lets not for get that!! SOG has wins against all the top 168 pound fighters.
GGG took the air out of soup can called Macklin who ward opponent to knight would have easily beat. Yet you guys act like GGG is a god for beating a limited fighter in Macklin.

Rodriguez is a puncher and nothing else. He can't even make 168 lbs to fight in the division. How the Fvck anyone has him #3 is beyond comprehension. If he cant make weight for the biggest fight at 168 and all the World titles, he ain't making weight for anyone or any fight at 168. He's done at 168.


Groves is gonna beat Carl Froch.

 

Ward would absolutely undress GGG in the middle of the ring.

 

Rodriguez kind of sucks TBH. The dude has terrible punching technique. The SMW landscape is pretty barren. Gonzalez is better than Rodriguez but he would still get schooled by Ward. GGG, Stevenson, Kovalev, and winner of Pascal/Bute are all better than Rodriguez.

Not a bad opponent for Ward to shake off some ring rust but lets not kid ourselves, Rodriguez is not that great.

 

Rodriguez at #3? What has he done to get ahead of Stieglitz?

I've said before the fight that he's slow and throws wide. He's a good club fighter, nothing more. Guys like Groves, DeGale, Dirrell are all better than Rodriguez.

It's a good comeback fight for Ward. Now he will move on to someone better in his next fight.
