Had he seriously injured him, which he could have easily done, MMA would either be made illegal or GNP would be banned or standing 8 counts would been intoduced. In short MMA would be ****ing ****. Jon Jones got more **** on here for dropping Machida after choking him out.
I think the same. I was always disgusted by that cheap shot and Henderson's attitude after it, and have never been able to properly enjoy Hendo's victories since. He could very easily have knocked Bisping - a husband and father of young children - into a coma, given him brain damage, or worst-case scenario, flat out killed him live on TV in front of an audience of millions. And it was a conscious decision he made to smack him a full-blooded flying power shot when Bisping's head was flat on the canvas and Henderson knew damned well that he was already unconscious. That's the worst kind of shot you can land, on an unconscious opponent whose head has nowhere to move. Because of who the two fighters are, he pretty much gets a pass for it and that is absolute bull****. :hat
Really? I don't think it's doubtfull at all. IWhat would happen if Bisping was seriously hurt or killed? Look at that photo again and imagine it on the front page of a newspaper. A guy so clearly knocked unconsious Hendos corner are aldready celebrating. As the defenceless fighter lays on his back the other guy jumps up into the air and is about to come down with added force and smash him right in the face before the ref has chance to get in between them. The rules of MMA would be scrutinised with a fine tooth comb, people that don't even like sports nevermind combat sports would get involved in the debate and be trying to find clips of the most brutal GNP to illustrate their point. If Bisping was hurt they would have a compelling argument that I can't see anyone challenging succesfully. You think that there would be no extra sanctions imposed or an all out ban? If you really do then you have no idea how politics works. Politicians will do anything the media demonises, and they would demonise the **** out of this as it would be a massive story, in order to be seen as doing something and making changes in society in the eyes of the average voter.
If Bisping went into convulsions on the floor and died because of that punch, then that photo is on the front page of every newspaper and on every network TV show, and millions of people will treat it like a murder was committed on live TV. And the things is, it wouldn't have been a murder. But for sure it would have been manslaughter. It wasn't part of a sporting contest. Henderson knew that the sporting contest was over. He made the conscious decision to launch a vicious, incredibly dangerous assault on a man who he KNEW was unconscious and unable to defend himself in any way. And then he took the microphone and bragged about it. :-( Smashing a guy in the head like that when he is utterly unable to defend himself on any level and his head has nowhere to go to ride the impact out, you pretty much can't get more dangerous than that. That **** can turn very bad very quickly. A new sport which is trying to shed its reputation for mindless brutality can't afford to soak up a hit like that. Something like boxing has decades of tradition behind it, and an established place in mainstream culture, and so could ride out the storm. MMA doesn't have that security. Henderson could very easily have essentially killed the sport with that punch. Sheer luck meant that Bisping recovered fully. It was one of the most disgraceful acts in MMA history, and he basically gets a free pass for it. In fact, he gets applauded for it. atsch :hat
Hitting someone to 'shut them up' when they are already out has nothing to do with sporting competition. The only thing I disagree with here is that I think the fact his head was on the floor actually prevented more damage. Brain damage is generally incured when the head moves quickly and the brain slams into the inside wall of your skull. The back of your face, where the skull is quite jagged and contored is the worst part to have brain on bone contact.. If Bispings head could have moved back when smashed with that force it could have been very nasty indeed.
Bisping was in a way a winner despite losing this fight. In no way this loss damages his career, he put on a good fight although many people were expecting him to be dominated. Props to him for not making excuses.
True. But worst of all is when it can move back a little bit, and then immediately smash into the floor for a double hit. The worst KOs in boxing tend to be when a guy is dropped heavily onto his back and then the back of his head hits the floor. Either way, it was only sheer luck that Bisping didn't end up seriously damaged. And Henderson basically did it because Bisping talked some smack to hype up the fight and put extra money in both of their pockets. atsch Plus, Dan knew damned well that Bisping was the father of two young children. atsch He also knew damned well that the punch had KOed Bisping cold as soon as it landed. It was obvious. He could have pulled out of that strike at any time, but he chose not to. atsch And then he crowed like it takes a big man to land a flying haymaker on a guy who is sound asleep on the canvas. atsch He ruined maybe the best one-punch knockout of his career, showed himself to be an absolute ****, and put the entire sport at serious risk of going right back to the wilderness. Just because of a petty grudge he had against Bisping for talking some smack before their fight to generate interest and excitement, the same as the Englishman does to hype every match that he's been involved in. atsch It's the sort of thing you'd call a disgrace if it came from a 22 year old shithead thug nobody fighter, let alone a 38 year old ATG and two-time Olympian. atsch :hat
