Nice win Vitali

Vitali's level of athleticism is impressive for sure. He's been in boxing or kick boxing since the age of 16, and now has arguably his career best performance when being 40 years old.

..A nice time to retire and let Wlad take things over completely.

 

I agree with the impressiveness. Adamek was not a superstar but he was a good fighter and top contender. Vitali on the other hand, not only beat Adamek, but also, imo, showed he was a pound for pound better fighter.

AS for the question of Vitali vs Wlad, it too is an interesting question. There is no doubt that Wlad has the better wins. With Byrd X2, Chagaev, and a few others. But, there is also no doubt that Wlad also has the worse losses. Wlad has been badly exposed by Sanders with pretty much the first clean punch he took. Same with Brewster. I know there is a lot of hoopla about his new style and improvement, but the fact is that there is nothing to suggest that when he is caught clean and hurt (as any fighter can be), he doesnt know what to do and struggles really badly by desperately trying to clinch. In fact, even in the latest Haye fight there was a time or maybe two where he was caught and looked very vulnerable. In fact if he doesnt outclass his opponent totally, he has major problems. And even when he does, he has some real rocky moments, See Brewster I and even Peter.

Vitali on the other hand, has never really failed a test too badly. The byrd fight, he was winning a good fight. While he did quit, it was a nothing fight, with a decision made about an injury. I know it was a WBO title, but this title meant about as much as the current IBO or WBF title. Absolutely nothing. If it was a meaningful fight, i think it safe to assume that he would have continued, and in all honesty, he probably also would have won. He also had the Lewis fight, where he was very competitive. Lewis won, but it was close. I cant imagine Wlad taking the punishment that Vitali took and therefore making it as competitive because he has never proved he could take punishment.

It is also relevant in comparing the two to note that Vitali has been the champion for a longer period than Wlad and was champ before Wlad. This means it is up to Wlad to surpass him, not the other way around. Particularly in circumstances where the two are not going to fight each other. And even moreso when Vitali has avenged Wlad's biggest loss. In fact, i think that Vitali's legacy grows with every Wladimir Victory as well as his own. And with the Adamek/Haye double it has increased quite a bit. In fact the only thing that drags it down is the prime loss to Lewis (an ATG), although with this , the brothers results definitely raise Lewis' standing as an ATG.

It is hard to say that Vitali deserves a top 10 ATG status, simply because there are so many other great fighters, but he is definitely starting to strength his case to go top 10 or better. In fact, one has to wonder,if he had managed to pull out the Lewis victory, just how highly he might be regarded. If you think about it, he has:
Maintained his success at a later age than others, Dominated more than nearly all, been more active than nearly all champions, His reign is as long as anyone's, he is physically more gifted than any of his predecessors (ie height weight and general size advantages), and he has always shown up in excellent condition. In fact, if had beaten Lewis, i think that he would have a case for number 1 of all time. If he ever beat Wlad, or Wlad's conqueror, i think that would have to make it even stronger.

You can never fully appreciate a career until 10 or 20 years after it, when all contenders faced have retired from the game. And it is hard to know what needs to be done to erase the Lewis loss from the resume (although a Lewis loss is not as bad as a Rahman and MCCall loss, or even a Norton Loss, arguably a Frazier or Schmelling loss etc. I think that when the dust settles Vitali will do very well with his all time ranking. Wlad, still has an awful lot to prove and despite getting older, will have his ATG ranking shattered if he is KOd early again. As he ages, that is more likely than not to happen. I am pretty confident that Vitali will end up the higher ranked brother in time.

 

There is no question that this is has to be considered one of Vitali's better performances.

 

Good win for Vitali, I figured Adamek would give him a harder fight than he did but was simply outgunned in there. Was this Vitali's best win? I don't think so. Sanders is still his best win, he may have been older and not in great shape but he was a dangerous fighter and his big win over Wlad far and away trumps Adamek's win over Arreola. Not too mention Adamek, with his style, is no youngster either.

I also think you can make an argument that Peter(coupled with Vitali's layoff) and Gomez may be better wins as well but I have no problem putting Adamek ahead of those two. Still, Vitali beat a solid fighter in dominant fashion, nice win there.

And I wasn't really, it's honestly hard for me to disassociate Adamek from a Chad Dawson victim(a man who i consider to be mentally handicapped). Solid win, but in the long scheme of things, a completely forgone conclusion.

I agree with every word. Adamek had no business being in the same ring as a Klitschko. He's not a Heavyweight.

The not being a heavyweight thing, that's whatever. It's him just not being good enough, athletically.... And not having anywhere near the toolset skillwise.

 

Adamek has looked fairly weak at Heavyweight in my estimation. He can't set a high tempo, he throws very few punches, and he still seems to tire down the stretch. This was even the case against the likes of Michael Grant. Compare this to his style of fighting at the lower weights and it's night and day. He would routinely go the distance with little to no problem, whilst all the time throwing combinations and looking strong when he was under fire. In addition to what you're saying about skill and ability, I also think Adamek was badly hindered by the extra weight he's been carrying. As I say, he is no Heavyweight.

 

No he didn't, he took the fight on about 4 weeks notice after other fighters had turned the spot down. Prior to that, he had been playing on SA's PGA tour just like you criticize him for doing prior to the Vitali fight.

He "gassed" the same way in fights where he was ten pounds lighter too (and also several years younger). The Sanders that fought both Wlad and Vitali showed similarly improved footwork and technique, and more intensity, than at any previous stage of his career. It also happens that against Wlad, he didn't have to worry about going more than three rounds.

 

No major accomplishment IMCV. Vitali looked pretty peppy but that doesn't improve the quality of the win. Adamek was hopelessly outgunned. One of the more grossly apparent cases of size disparity seen in the ring in years.

 

Vitali is the best in the world today and in any era!!!!!!!
