All this talk of quitting made me think about Nick Blackwell who fought very bravely and it put him in a coma he then did some sparring when he had retired and was in a even worse condition now I can't find anything past 2019. Boxing fans like to call people quitters but I don't see much interest in helping injured fighters?
I'm convinced Blackwell would be fine and maybe still be boxing if Saunders and Fury hadn't egged him on so much. Now they probably don't even have contact with him, sad really.
I blame Blackwell's corner - they could have stopped the fight and prevented Blackwell from suffering damage he didn't need to take. Everyone watching in the arena and at home could see what was taking place in that ring - the incompetence of Blackwell's corner, and the referee to a certain extent, led to him getting seriously hurt. And to reiterate my point, they even let Blackwell go back into the gym and spar, where he suffered another major injury again. Nonetheless, hope the kid is doing well and keeping safe.
Blackwell has nobody but himself to blame for the condition he is in now. He was hurt, he was exceptionally lucky to come out of a surgery and make a full recovery in terms of his faculties... go and watch his interview on Good Morning Britain, he was speaking well, looked healthy and then go and look at him now... Then the moron goes and spars and is now wrecked, I have little sympathy for him.
Yeah I was there that night and it was ridiculous how the corner let him carry on I think it was around the 9th and Eubank must have landed double figures in a short space of time. He even looked at the ref as if to say wtf.
Last I saw he’d put a lot of weight on and was training for a marathon. Think David Haye gave him a decent amount of money to tick him over.
I agree, although I can't help but feel sympathetic. He looked fine on the GMB interview with his brother, although he appeared quite stone faced and generally unhappy with the situation, as anybody would. In the new interviews he's completely different, a lot friendlier and laughing all the time, but as you infer, he's very different. Regardless, I hope he's happy and enjoying life.

I’ve seen far worse that needed stopping that wasn’t. If you rewatch he was throwing back often. There was a high chance he wasn’t going to ko Eubank which is what he needed. There was however, still a chance and while he was in there still giving it a go there was no real reason to stop that imo. He was almost fine in the months after. The sparring incident is what totally ****ed him. That fight was no Groves vs Eddie Gut. That was one where the man had almost zero chance and wasn’t even trying anymore. O’Connor and Eddie’s corner are disgraceful.
Have to say I thought the same at the time. Saw no reason for the ref to stop it and who here hasn't cheered on a fighter in a tough fight??.
