His body has changed because he went from a pro athlete into a long term semi vegetable state. Bodyfat and water distribution has changed as he's lost a lot of muscle. No one to blame but himself for the 2nd injury.
Not true he looks the same, glad he's getting better. He gained some weight but he looks the same. I'm so upset that sparring took place.. I really wish people were looking out for Nick Blackwell more. He was not only sparring after the Eubank travesty but sparring a 175 pound fighter. It makes me Absolutely sick.. I don't Blame Blackwell, he may not have been 100% mentally, whoever allowed the sparring is who I blame. I hope he can recover as much as possible, I have so much respect for this warrior.
Agree with the first part. But he's not the only one to blame though. If You were a coach would you allow Blackwell to spar so soon after the Eubank fight?????? It was an ill advised sparring match. Blackwell is a young guy and it must have been a hard pill to swallow. No respectable coach would have allowed Blackwell to spar so soon after. Turns out the "coach" who allowed the sparring was some young guy in his early 20's.
There's been so much trauma to the sport in the last several years, if you actually take a hard look at it. It almost seems as if the sport has become less safe than it recently was just 15 years ago.Maybe that's just me. The amount of fighters that have ended up in a basic vegetative state or something similar just in the past few years, since, say, the Mago/Perez fight... Just seems surreal.
Who is to blame? The ref-should have seen that this needed stopping His corner-especially his father Himself ---------------------------------------- That wasn't a boxing match it was glaringly a slaughter in which he had zero chances of winning. That should have become obvious from the start since he was unable to block punches or evade them and unable to inflict any significant damage of his own. If a fighter begins that way when totally fresh, how can we expect him to do something different later with the same flawed set of skills and inabilities against a fighter with greater reach, faster hands and superior boxing skills. Ironically the one who saved his life was Eubanks senior by telling his son not to hit him on the head anymore but go to the body. Otherwise merciless Junior would have sent him to his grave.
Shame but I hope he makes an opportunity out of it. Worst thing in sport recently was that rugby boy who broke his neck stupidly diving into shallows, he mouthpaints all day now. Good for him, but by christ, being macho is for mugs.
