He's on the pound for pound podcast this week. He's still recovering but is now able to have a conversation and training kids too so he's clearly getting there. Speech is a bit slurred but considering what could've been a remarkable recovery. Obviously the second spar after the original injury was extremely unwise and he says he went into the Chris Eubank fight with a headache after sparring George Groves too. It's why medical checks and fighter honesty are so important.
Sparring again was one of the most stupid things I heard an injured fighter do, after only just walking away from it the first time. Glad to hear he's doing relatively well.
Did he tell his trainer about the headache? It was Gary locket iirc who was train ing him. Gary wouldn't of let him fight under those conditions, he must of kept this info to himself.
Lockett needs to take some responsibility for not throwing the towel in during the horrendous Eubank beatdown. Fighter taking 20 punch combos, no chance of ever winning that fight.
Fury and Saunders didn't help him either, you could tell he was trying too hard while they were cheering him on like a bunch of holligans! He would of boxed a lot better and more relaxed if they hadn't of got involved.
If you damage the part of your brain that is responsible for (amongst many many other things) decision making and your personality then you’re more likely to do something really compulsive and stupid. This is why many people with ABI’s have support workers involved in their day to day lives...
He was fighting back at all times. Never was he in a one sided pasting with nothing coming back like Groves Eddie Gutchknekt. He was losing the rounds but he was doing enough to make them competitive. Loughlin was the ref. He’s one of the only good ones we have and he’d have stopped it if it was that bad.
