Is he still in hospital? Hows he doing? I maintain that the ref last night was utterly disgraceful. Despite what the channel 5 commentators were saying, this fight was not even remotely competitive. From around round 5 on, Eubank was literally just beating Blackwell up, and landing huge shots. There was probably 3 times, where the ref could have stopped the fight before the 10th and no one would have complained. Part of his job is to protect the fighters from themselves. Blackwell was a warrior and wasn't going to quit, that doesn't mean he should have taken all that punishment
His corner should have stopped it, not the ref. Eubank-O'Sullivan was much more competitive but O'Sullivan's corner pulled him out in time. Eubank has now stopped 14 out of last 15 opponents (same number as Wilder). Only Golovkin and Joshua have stopped 15 out of 15.
He has bleed on the brain, and as of this morning is in an induced coma. Not looking good, really hope he manages to overcome this.
C'mon Len. This isn't the time to score cheap points. You're better than that. On a more positive note, Robert Smith says the procedure is routine for this type of injury and they're hopeful of a swift and full recovery.
Yeah, I read that too. I suppose it's a routine procedure, buts still a nightmare injury, and never a sure thing to go through. It sounds like they're trying to keep it as positive as possible.
I agree with you: the ref was terrible. I watched the last few rounds in a combination of shock and disgust. Nick was on his feet should by sheer will. The amount of punishment he took was far too much.
The most important thing is that he makes a recovery to normal life. His boxing career is very much secondary
Indeed. It's easy to forget just how easy it is for a young man to have his life taken away for our entertainment. Some posters would do well to remind themselves of the risks these guys they denigrate on these boards take.
Im not scoring cheap points Sugar. I know the subject is distasteful but its no use burying our heads in the sand here. This has to be addressed. I know there are a lot of other factors in play but there is no getting away from the fact that Nicks corner are the main ones to blame here. Lockett and the others should know their man. They must take most of the blame here. It was obvious even on the telly that Nick was unresponsive in the corner between rounds prior to the 10th. The danger signs were there for all to see. Thats the second time recently now that British cornermen misreading a fight have done their fighter a great disservice - Gallagher in Quigg-Frampton and now Lockett (with tragic consequences). The comparison with Pascal Collins is fair and valid. We need to encourage the Pascal Collins type of trainer and discourage the 'brave' sort. Something simple such as asking a basic question such as "Do you really want to go on?" OR "Im giving you one more round to show me you are ok in there" This was avoidable. Nicks deteriorating condition could have and should have been picked up on by Lockett.
:good And don't forget the absolute hiding Gallagher allowed John Murray to take against Brandon Rios.
