Nick Diaz Wants The Ring And PRIDE Rules

DREAM are apparently only holding one cage event a year. And i (for the first time) completely agree with Nick. The Ring is where "real" fighters are honned. The cage affords alot of advantages that i simply dont like. Although the White cage looks pretty cool!!

 

Man **** a PRIDE ring. I was watching a PRIDE dvd the other day and every fight on the card was restarted at least twice because the action was too close to the ropes. Its just not a conducive environment for grappling and provides for unnecessary lulls in the action. The ring is designed for standing combat. The cage is designed for MMA.

 

Thats why some of the best submmision specialists fought in PRIDE :roll: You never got to stall and wall and lay and pray in PRIDE. The yellow and red card took care of that. And theres no where to hide in the ring.

 

WTF does PRIDE's card system have to with their ring? The cage actually prevents lay and pray more so than the ring because their are many techniques you can utilize against the fence to escape from bottom. Like wise where in the ring you run the risk of falling out, getting tangled in the ropes, and losing your momentum to a restart, the cage is perfectly suited to address these issues.

I don't know what PRIDE having some of the best submission specialists has to do with anything either. You need to learn the difference between causation and correlation.

 

You need to learn the difference between subjective twaddle and reality. If you notice from the thread title Nick was talking about the PRIDE rules and the ring. Incedently and quite surprisingly so was i..

Now how many times have you seen a fighter fall out of the ring in PRIDE? Either way its an academic point. The facts are the better grapplers and submmision fighters "were" in PRIDE. The ruleset was better as it favored more action without the amount of stalling that you see in the UFC. Furthermore Nick agrees with me. Il take his opinion over yours in a heartbeat.

 

Where did I criticize the rule set again? I'm talking cage vs. ring here bubba, try to keep up. Certainly the pride card system encouraged action on the mat, but there is no doubt in my mind that the cage is better suited for grappling than the ring. How could it not be? Have you ever seen anyone get tangled in the ropes or fall out of the ring? Ever seen a fight stalled because the fighter's were simply close to the ropes and they had to be reset in the middle? I'm positive you've seen Sakuraba/Rampage where Page almost drops Saku out of the ring. Clearly something like that could never happen in the octagon.

I don't really care what Nick Diaz has to say on this topic, clearly he was jaded by his experience in the UFC. He also wants to abolish elbow strikes in MMA, do you agree with that notion too?

I'd prefer a smaller cage and all fights 5 or 6 rounds.

I love Nick, but do you really think its a good idea to listen to him on any topic other than how to beat somebodies ass or where the best weed is?

There is a reason even Japanese MMA orgs are switching to the cage, because it is better, period.

The ONLY reason MMA has ever been fought in a ring is that nobody thought of a cage early enough, and since then just out of a misplaced sense of tradition.

 

Its been said by plenty of fighters besides Nick that they like the ring much better. Pretty much wrestlers like the cage.

 

Hmm, the org that has no oversight from any impartial party sometimes had more "entertaining" matches.

Along with the fact that nobody ever once failed to make weight or failed a drug test....I wonder how all of those happened?

Take off the rose tinted glasses as well, do we need to go through all the boring matches in Pride?


Oh but let me guess, unfairly stealing fighters money is the way forward right? Because it could never be abused right?

Yea the system was SO BAD that non of the top fighters in the world wanted to go over and fighter in PrideFC, right? Ohhh no wait thats right they where ALL in the UFC.

 

Contrary to your hard on for all things UFC, it isn't the crux of every conversation.

The best fighters in the world were pretty equally dispersed, the only difference is the ones in pride often got robbed of their money for no reason whatsoever.

Have you seen the Yoshida vs Gardner fight? Can you defend what happened?
