Lol I don’t know? I assume it was in correlation with his 5’3 height? But not sure. A cursory glance did not reveal its origins

Ray "Windmill" White, a late sixties-early seventies LH/MW from the Pacific NW.
Any 'oldsters' remember seeing him? He had some televised fights back then.
    A 'rangy' white fighter.
    Super entertaining!
"Windmill"? He'd clinch with an opponent and then blast him with behind the back shots to the head before the ref could separate them. :)
Pretended to be hurt long before Ali.
    A host of other antics.
You had to love the guy if you saw him fight; not really dirty. The crowds loved him!

Windmill White was awesome! Remember so well my Dad and I watching his antics on Boxing from the Forum in the early '70s. Good times.

Carl Williams got his nickname as an amateur someone told him that he was a great fighter. Carl replied "ain't it the Truth". He became Carl "the Truth" Williams.

I'm pretty sure midget Wolgast's father idolised Ad Wolgast, so Midget took the name out of respect. And obviously as a fly he was a 'midget'.

    Newsboy Brown

Was a russian immigrant, who sold newspapers as a boy on the street corner. Back then, it was very territorial, not unlike gangs, and so there were lots of brawls.

Brown was the toughest newsboy around.

Bet he didn't get his papers stolen after that!
