Seeing as the word has all but departed the lexicon, I doubt we'll be seeing the "Livermore Larruper" or indeed any other kind of Larruper again. Thankfully the Young Corbett trend seemed to die out after WWII, along with that of nicking the name of an existing fighter who happened to be good. I think it could be tricky selling a PPV between Young Corbett XIV and Delaware Joe Walcott.... As far as nicknames to strike fear into an opponent's heart, "Newsboy" really doesn't cut the mustard anymore
I actually never heard him referred to as the Jew killer. Baby-Face McLarnin was the only name I had heard. Although completely likely what with the makeup of boxing back in his day and the endless names on his resume such as Ruby Goldstein, Al Singer, Barney Ross, etc. It reminds me of when they used to call Roger Mayweather the Mexican Assassin for the very same reason.
Lt. Frank Drebin: Hector Savage. From Detroit. Ex-boxer. His real name was Joey Chicago. Ed Hocken: Oh, yeah. He fought under the name of Kid Minneapolis. Nordberg: I saw Kid Minneapolis fight once. In Cincinnati. Lt. Frank Drebin: No you're thinking of Kid New York. He fought out of Philly. Ed Hocken: He was killed in the ring in Houston. By Tex Colorado. You know, the Arizona Assassin. Nordberg: Yeah, from Dakota. I don't remember it was North or South. Lt. Frank Drebin: North. South Dakota was his brother. From West Virginia. Ed Hocken: You sure know your boxing. Lt. Frank Drebin: All I know is never bet on the white guy.
